Lifted

Down near the dock in Bellport I recently noticed that there is a house that has been completely lifted up off of its foundation. I'm not sure why but I expect it is due to the flooding that the area gets when there are storms. A few weeks ago when I was doing the 100 people challenge I sketched a few of the workmen that were on the street surveying the property. It was interesting to see what was now holding up the house...lots of steel girders.

    1. Thanks, Jo. A lot of the houses along the water have been raised up since Hurricane Sandy and those storms that followed.

  2. Hmmm... interesting! A bit precarious for the people living there, it seems. But cool that you sketched it!

    1. I don't think anyone is living in the house while they are lifting it up and redoing it. It will have a great view of the bay when they are done.

  3. Joan the sketch is super. Although the house sitting on the steel makes me wonder how safe the house is for anyone living there. Hope you are enjoying some better weather and spring is making its appearance in your neck of the woods. Hugs!

    1. Debbie, thanks. I don't think anyone is living in the house at the moment. I think the plan is to build something safer to raise it up in case of future flooding. A lot of the homes down by the water have done that.
