Fruit

I'm trying to combine several things that I'm doing. One of the items in the Wet Canvas Scavenger Hunt was fruit...and more than one. This was done from a still life setup so it fits.  This also fits into the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge.

Sunset

This was done for the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge. I used a photo I had taken when I was in Australia for my niece's wedding a few years ago. Pump Hill Farms in Pemberton had some really great sunrises and sunsets!

Beach Waves

Here is another small painting I did for the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge. This was done from one of my own photos taken at Smith Point Park.

Small Flower Arrangement

I tossied the flowers from yesterday's arrangement. Then I plucked the flowers that still looked OK from a basket of flowers someone had sent me and arranged them in the same jar. Here is #17 for the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge.

Shower Flowers

I was invited to a family bridal shower that took place a few days after my surgery so needless to say I didn't make it to the shower. My SIL went and came home with one of the table centerpieces for me. It was a small arrangement of flowers in a canning jar. It was really pretty. I planned on sketching that and another arrangement of flowers that someone had sent. I decided to do a direct watercolor of it for the 30 x 30 Challenge before I tossed the flowers.

Artist at Work

Here's another painting for the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge. This was done from a photo of me sketching in Delft, Holland. Thank you, Suzala for your picture taking skills.

Pine Cones

I have been trying to do a few more paintings for the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge. This was done from one of my photos taken at Robert Moses State Park.

Katz's Deli

The NYC Urban Sketchers virtually visited Greenwich Village. I sketched at Katx's Deli..andyone for a pastrami on rye?

Sweet Lefty Lucy

Last week Lefty Lucy 's theme had something to do with candy and sweetness...hence the lollipop in some of the sketches. Here are some of my sketches.

I must apologize to many of you. I am having serious problems with Blogger and many days I have been unable to respond to comments on my blog or comment on other people's blogs. It is frustrating...and then some days (rare days) it works fine. I may end up having to do a new blog...I hope not!

Self Portrait in Direct Watercolor

I wanted to try another portrait in direct watercolor and who better to use as a model beside myself?

Juicy 1 & 2

Both of these were done in direct watercolor for the 30 x 30 Challenge. I'm so way behind that I'm not making an effort to finish. I'm lucky if I've been able to do much of any art lately. I just don't have the inspiration at the same time that I have my materials nearby. For some reason my small set of paints were on the table and I grabbed the fruit and painted it quickly before I ate it.

Trees and Grasses

This is another direct watercolor for the 30 x 30 Watercolor Challenge. This was done at the Bayport Preserve pre-surgery,

Sea Ready

Here is another direct watercolor for the 30 x 30 Challenge that I did before my surgery. I like boats that are tied up along the bulkheads in Patchogue.

Corner Building

I have painted along the canals in Patchogue so many times that it was nice to find a view I hadn't painted or sketched yet.  I saw this view and it reminded me of a spot I've sketched at in Maine....minus the rocks.

This was done as part if the 30 x30 Direct Watercolor Challenge.

Flowers and Brick

This is another direct watercolor done before my surgery for the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge.

Direct Dunes

I am always looking for dune views that are a little different. I've done this one before but this was from another viewpoint. Sayville has a lot of them. This is another direct watercolor for this year's 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge.

Sayville Blooms

Before my surgery I tried to do a few direct watercolor paintings for the 30 x 30 Challenge so I would have things to post in case I didn't get right back to doing art...and so far I haven't. This was done in Sayville directly in watercolors.

Last Hospital Sketch

The food at the hospital for dinner and lunch was delicious. Breakfast...not so good...just regular eggs and a roll. I did sketch the tray from the dinner the first night...beef fillet (juicy, rare, and tasty) just the way I like it. No complaints about that.

Yesterday the hospital called to tell me that I left my sketchbook in my room. They held on to it until my SIL drove over there today to pick it up.

Hospital Sketches

Wednesday I had a total hip replacement at Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson. The surgery went well and a few hours later they had me up and walking around. Today I had PT where they taught me some exercises ro do. I am sore and achy, but it is tolerable with the medications. I'm sittin here with an ice pack on my hip. I did a few sketches from my room no roommate to sketch. I wish I had my sketching materials with me in recover since there were a lot of people there, but my bag wasn't anywhere near me. I had to wait to sketch until after they put me in a room. It wasn't too exciting but I made the best of it. One sketch is looking out toward the door and include the breathing machine I need to use and some of what was on the lunch tray.

Here is a view looking out of my room toward the hallway.

I couldn't skip sketching me in bed with the IV.

Rocky Mountain View

On Saturday the NYC Urban Sketchers virtually visited the Rocky Mountains. The trip was organized and designed by Mama Bear and Reggie Greeley and the website of wonderful information was provided by Cecelia Evanesco. Mama Bear and Reggie live in Colorado and their enthusiasm for their area showed. I decided to use one of the waterfall references and since I am taking part in the 30x30 Direct Watercolor Challenge I did this without any pencil lines.

Island View Marina

Most towns along the shore here have several marinas. Some of them use a stacked system to store more boats out of the water like Island View Marina in Patchogue.

Pizza

I am participating in the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge again this year. I visit Satelite Pizza in Bayport quite often and have been meaning to sketch/paint the building. This was done directly with watercolor...no pencil lines as a guide.

No Lifeguard on Duty

I remember being at the beach as a kid when the lifeguards left for the day. I always wanted to climb up on the stand, but I was a scaredy cat and didn't like climbing up things or being up too high. I'm still not very adventurous in that way. This Sayville mom looks like she wasn't taking any chances.

Tuesday With Lefty Lucy

Lefty Lucy does not disappoint. She is really so much fun to draw and it is good to see people from other groups I belong to who have joined in too.

Here are some of the shorter (5 - 10 min) poses.

I am doing the 30x30 Direct Watercolor Challenge for June, so for the first painting I did Lefty Lucy directly in watercolors.

10 minute poses.

The final 20 minute pose.

Downtown Sayville

For the last Wet Canvas Scavenger Hunt a street scene was on the list. I did this with water-soluble Noodler's brown ink. I sat in my mobile studio to get a view almost from the center of the street in Sayville.

Rhodies

Last Tuesday I was able to join my Plein air group for some painting at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum. Our destination was the rhododendron garden which was in beautiful display. It was a bit of a walk for me with my problem hip, but I persisted and was glad I did.

Local Businesses

For the current Wet Canvas Scavenger Hunt one of the items is a storefront. I stopped at a small, local strip mall here in Holbrook and captured Tailgaters and New Century Kitchen. This was sketched from my mobile studio.
