View to the Marina

We have a lot of canals and marinas locally. This was across the water in Patchogue.

Garden and House

There is a small marina in Sayville along Brown's Creek. I sat there but wasn't looking toward the creek and the water. There is a lovely garden in the circle at the entrance and views of a few houses behind it. I still had the Caran d'Ache Neocolors in my bag and gave them another try for this scene.

Island View Marina

Near the Sandspit parking lot in Patchogue you can see across the canal to the Island View Marina. Sometimes there is a lot going on, but this day it was pretty quiet...perfect for sketching.

Silly Lily Revisited

Recently I went over to Silly Lily in East Moriches. I've been there many times so I'm always looking for a new view to sketch, like this one.

Weeks Boat Yard Postcard

Weeks Boat Yard was the subject of another postcard that I did for the project being sent to Ukraine. I've sketched this view so many times.

Weeks Yacht Yard

I've sketched versions of this view of Weeks Yacht Yard in Patchogue so often. It always calls me when I am nearby. This is 4 x 6 for the postcard project.

Dockside

It seems like I haven't done any boat paintings in a while. This was done at a marina in Sayville.

30x30 Direct Watercolor #28 - Bayport Marina

This direct watercolor was done at local marina in Bayport. I was there on a Sunday and it is fun to see the families going out for a trip together.

Port Jeff House

This house overlooks the Port Jeff marina. I'm sure there is a great view from every window.

Mastscape Over the Fence

I like this mastscape over the fence. You can only see a small part of the boats at this marina in Patchogue. It is the masts and rigging that tell the story.

Autumn View by the Marina

Down in West Sayville I spied a spot where I could see a bit of a marina peeking through the autumn leaves. After the rain the other night and the wind this week the trees are looking pretty bare. I'm lucky I sketched this when I could.

Bayport Marina

On Sunday I headed down to the marina along Brown's Creek in Bayport. It was nice to see so many of the boat owners going out on their boats. It was a beautiful day to go out, especially since our heat wave finally broke.

Mastic Water View

A friend took our sketch group to this marina in Mastic Beach once. I haven't been back since. The boardwalk along one side looks like it has seen a few too many high tides and is quite uneven...but it makes a good subject.

Facing the Marina

The red building is a private marina along the water in Sayville. At one time a friend docked her boat there and we went in to sketch. She no longer keeps her boat there so I have to sketch it from the outside.

Dockside

On Sunday I went back to the marina where I had sketched the other night. The bright red buoys caught my attention. I worked directly with watercolor for this painting.

House by the Marina

There is a small marina in Sayville where I often sketch the boats and the view of the water. This time I focused on one of the big houses facing the marina. If this was my house I would have made sure the design had huge windows to watch the sunrise each morning.

Land's End Dock

This is a dock by the marina at Land's End, a catering and motel in Sayville. Most people come to park and watch the view in the other direction over the Great South Bay, but I find this view more interesting to sketch.

Boats Allowed

To help catch up I am posting two unrelated sketches, other than they both deal with boats. This is the back of some buildings near a marina in Patchogue.

On Wednesday night the Patchogue Sketch Club was invited to sketch on a strip of private property along a canal in Patchogue. The owner, Jo, told us we could sketch any of the buildings (including her house), any of the gardens, or any view from down along her dock and boathouse. I had sketched there once probably about 10 years ago but we focused on sketching her garden...in fact Jo bought my painting of her garden. The boathouse stuck in my mind since then so that's where I headed. I don't know if the boathouse is vacant at this time or if the boat that usually occupies it was out for a ride. I liked that I could see some of the equipment and materials in side.

My friend, Pat, took a few photos including these two of me sketching.

By the Marina

I have a fondness for these rustic buildings with all the junk piled in front of them that I find at a lot of old marinas. This was at a marina along the river in Patchogue.

Upturned Boats

With all the rain and snow we've had this winter I guess there is a good reason for these boats to be turned over. This is a fun, old fashioned marina in East Moriches.
