Bayport Beach View

There is a really small local beach in Bayport that is on the Great South Bay. It is a nice area for a sketch.

Corey Beach

With our cold, windy days I've been looking for locations where I can part and sketch from my "mobile studio." At this time of year you can park along the street by Corey Beach in Bayport and get a view like this one. The covered pavilion and the life guard's shack are a good backdrop to the shrubs and beach grasses.

Clouds and Blue Sky

We have had some beautiful clouds lately, and some of them were mixed with blue skies. This was painted down by the bay in Bayport.

Bayport Corner

Bayport doesn't really have a "town" area, but down at the end of Bayport Ave where it meets Middle Road has a few stores. I used to get my hair cut over there. I like to do street views in the small towns here.

Oysters & Clams & More

Last week I bought some oysters and clams on the half-shell from The Fish Store in Bayport as an appetizer for dinner. I did a Procreate sketch of them, and I was pleasantly surprised with how they came out.

One of the items for the CreativeSpark Scavenger Hunt was something related to childhood. I though about a slide immediately.

30x30 Direct Watercolor #28 - Bayport Marina

This direct watercolor was done at local marina in Bayport. I was there on a Sunday and it is fun to see the families going out for a trip together.

30x30DirectWatercolor #17 Geese + Sunbather

Down by the bay in Bayport the other day I saw a group of geese hanging around. Of course there were about 8 to start with but only 2 managed to stay around long enough to be models for my Direct Watercolor #17.

When I was at the Robert Moses Beach recently I tried sketching with Procreate on my iPad. It is difficult to sketch on it in bright sunlight because it is very difficult to see what you're doing. Considering this was a half-blind sketch I don't think it came out too bad.

At the Car Wash

On the weekend the car wash is a busy place, and following a snowstorm it is even busier as so many people come out to get the grit and salt off their cars. Washville in Bayport was quite busy. I used artistic license to leave out the line of cars entering the premises on the right. I found a parking space in a lot across the street which had a fairly good view of the place. I just had my view blocked a bit every time the light down the street turned red. lol

Gouache Grasses and Snow

I did another gouache painting...and lazy me I didn't change the gouache on my pallette. I worked with what I had down by the Bayport Dock. There are remnants of a concrete wall or fence there and I thought there was a nice contrast between the concrete and the soft grasses.

Yellows and Golds

I am still lucky enough to find some locations with a lot of autumn color, like this spot in Bayport.

Autumn in Bayport

I am starting to find a little more color around my area. Does that mean there is more to come? I hope so!

Bayport Marina

On Sunday I headed down to the marina along Brown's Creek in Bayport. It was nice to see so many of the boat owners going out on their boats. It was a beautiful day to go out, especially since our heat wave finally broke.

One Regular Pie, Please

Recently we switched pizza places and are now going to La Pizzeria in Bayport. The first time I drove there I noticed that they have this huge window in front where you can see some of what is going on behind the counter. I knew at some point I was going to sketch that view. The other day I parked right in front and did exactly that. I was sketching from my parked car. I wonder if they were wondering what I was doing parked there for so long.

Boat House

Every once in a while I come across a boathouse. I'm not sure if this is an actual private residence in Bayport or not. I know all the other buildings along the water there are actual homes. I think it would be interesting to watch them actually lift the boat out of the water.

Construction

It seems like there is a lot of construction going on around here. This was spotted in Bayport but I'm not sure what they were doing since there were no signs around.

Catching Up

With the holiday excitement there are a few sketches that never got posted.

Avocados in a Mexican-American Grill in Bayport. It was a cold day for sketching so my mobile studio came in very handy. Haven't tried the restaurant yet.

Here are two sketches done for the Scavenger Hunt at Creativespark.art...
an angel

and a poinsettia done in red ballpoint pen.

Street Construction

The other day I was riding around looking for some colorful trees in Bayport. Out of the corner of my eye I spied some activity going on...road work! Yay!! I went around the block so I could be facing what was going on and lucked out because it was a street that was really free of other cars parked, so I had a good view. Workers in yellow vests, a Komatsu digger, a truck with supplies, cones, a "road work ahead" sign and colorful autumn leaves...what a great cast of characters!

Bodhi's Beach Shack

With Inktober taking over the month of October I have some sketches that never got posted. This is a painting of Bodhi's Beach Shack. I did it as one of the postcards that I did for the troops. In the summer Bodhi's was very popular and crowded...sometimes with entertainment. On this day it was a windy, cool October day and I don't think Bodhi's was even open. I'm not sure why the one umbrella was open.

Inktober 2022 - Day 2

I was down by the bay in Bayport near the fishing pier. This person looked ready for the damp weather and the fishermen looked ready to catch something. Even the birds were stirring.
