Dockside

It seems like I haven't done any boat paintings in a while. This was done at a marina in Sayville.

I found this sailboat on the grounds of Week's Yacht Yard in Patchogue this week.

Sailboat at Bellport Marina

There is always something to sketch at the Bellport Dock & Marina. Plein air sketching with PALS.

All Tied Up

There is a small dockage area in Sayville right off River Road and I love to check out the sailboats that are tied up there. Brown's River Tidal Marsh is in the background.

Direct Watercolor #22

#22 for the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge was painted at the Sandspit Marina in Patchogue.

One of the items for the current Scavenger Hunt on creativespark.art is a sailboat...fairely easy to find around here.

Assorted Sketches

Here are a few sketches that were done for creativespark.com.

As you can see the subjects really are different.

Assorted Sketches

On Wednesday I had to have my car serviced at Nissan...inspection, oil change, and a recall. I was there for a while so I got to do a few sketches of people in the waiting room.

Since I had Art Rage on my phone I did a sketch of a woman waiting for her car. I don't know how people do sketches so easily on the phone. My fingers block my view of what I'm doing.

Back a while ago I did a sketch of a small sailboat at the Sayville Marina.

I'm still doing sketching for the Scavenger Hunts although they have moved from Wet Paints (which is shutting down in the next few months) to crebativespark.art. It is a very welcoming, smaller art group. One of the items in the scavenger hunt was a cup/mug and something held in your hand. This was done with a sketch & wash pencil.

Inktober 2020 Day 31 - Weeks Boat Yard & Faces

My Day 31 sketch for Inktober was done at one of my favorite local places. It was drizzling so I sat in my mobile studio at Weeks Boat Yard in Patchogue. What I love about that place is there is so much to sketch or paint and it always looks a little different. I don't get bored there.

Inktober is now officially over for 2020. For some reason it seemed to go quicker than it usually does. Anyway, I will be glad to get back to using my arsenal of colors again. lol

The other night one of my art groups had a Zoom meeting for the members. I am the secretary so I should have been taking notes and I did...for a while. lol Each member was asked to introduce themself and tell what they have been doing or creating this past month. There were 21 people so it took a while and I decided to sketch a bit. I didn't want to get up and miss anything so I just grabbed a piece of copy paper that had writing on one side and drew some of the faces of the members quickly with a brush pen. I should have planned this better and used better paper. I did get a few done...but not anywhere near the 21 that were sitting there. I should have started sooner.

Canalside in Sayville

There are so many boats along the canal in Sayville where the ferry boats depart for Fire Island. Some of the boats are commercial but most of them, aside from the ferries, are private. As I turned into the parking area there was a separation in the grasses and reeds where a sailboat could be seen on the other side. I had been on the other side first but couldn't find a good view of this. I did like it with the grasses though.

Docked

On Tuesday morning I finally met up with my plein air group at the Maritime Museum in Sayville. Most of the locations they've met at this year have been too far for me to join them and be able to get back to take care of Jerry. This was perfect! It was good to see them and converse at a social distance with our masks. This time I focused on the sailboat that was at the dock. Most of the boats there are motor boats so I was glad to see this one. There were artists standing on the dock but I used artistic license and left them out. One of them was trying to retrieve a $40 brush that she had dropped into the water. (A hazard of plein air painting by the water.) She was successful.

Portrait and Boat

Yesterday morning I went back to the Tuesday morning portrait group. I haven't been there since last December so I felt a little rusty. Gerri posed for us and I decided to do the full figure rather than just her face. She reads while she models for us.

After watching some of the memorial service for President Bush this morning I went out to do a sketch for my project. I now have 7 postcard sized paintings done...just 13 more. I should be able to get another one done tonight with my sketch group.

This was done down near the water in Sayville. I was glad to find a boat that was uncovered. Most are already shrink-wrapped for the winter.

Sailboat

Since I am pretty much surrounded by water, I do get to sketch a lot of boats. I think motorboats are more popular here because people take them across the Great South Bay to Fire Island. I love the stylish looks to sailboats personally...although I don't sail. I saw this one at the dock at the Maritime Museum in Sayville the other night.
