The snow had collected over by the small lake in Islip. I like this spot that has the lake in the background and a small creek in front...sometimes even a small waterfall. The snow added some nice character to the landscapes.

Snowy Oakdale
My challenge was to find different scenes that still have snow. This was down near a restaurant in Oakdale.

Snow at Sayville Beach
Since the bay is so nearby I ride down there quite often. This was the view at Sayville Beach the other day. A lot of the Great South Bay was frozen and there was still some snow remaining from the last storm.

Snow Piles and Boats
The boats at the marinas are mostly wrapped for the winter, but I did find this one in the lot by the Tiki Bar in Patchogue that was uncovered. I liked this scene with the melting snow piles and assorted marine materials around. I sketched from my mobile studio so the cold outside didn't phase me. I believe this is the Sunset Harbor Marina.

24 Bellport Lane
Many of the big, beautiful houses on Bellport Lane are hidden behind shrubbery for most of the year. Right now the foliage is sparse and you can see the lovely houses behind them. A little snow adds to their charm.

Sandspit Lighthouse in the Snow
I had seen a photo of some of our places here on Long Island in the snow. Sandspit Lighthouse in Patchogue was one of them. I decided to drive over and see how it looked in person. The parking lot had one path plowed through it, but in order to sit in my mobile studio to sketch it I had to park on the icy snow. It was cold so I knew I had limited time to sketch and paint before I would have to leave or turn on the heat...so I worked quickly. I really liked the way the ice covered so much of the rocks and that there was a break in the ice covering the bay.

Oakdale Path
Yes, our snow is still around...due to the cold very little of it has melted. I found another path into a wooded area. This one is in Oakdale right off Montauk Highway.

Snowy Road to the Marina
A friend of mine lives in Brookhaven and there is a small, private marina near her house. I've painted there with her several times. This time I headed over there while the snow was still on the ground. Due to the cold weather the snow isn't melting, so I have been able to paint a few snow scenes. I sat in my mobile studio outside the entrance to the marina. I didn't want to go in and take the chance of getting stuck in the snow...and besides I like being able to see the tracks that are already there.

The Grange on Toned Paper
I tend to do a lot of sketches at The Grange because it is so close to home and is a great spot with this driveway. I grabbed my Strathmore toned tan sketchbook when I was heading out because I know that while gouache works so well on the toned paper. I've sketched this driveway twice this winter and the view each way makes me happy.

Snowy View from The Grange
I stopped at The Grange in Sayville recently after we had a light coating of snow on top of the snow we had previously. It freshened up the scene and I knew I had to paint the view. This is looking down the driveway toward Montauk Highway. I was sitting in my mobile studio just past the carriage shed.

I'm Back - Happy New Year
Somehow I got off track and haven't posted in a few days. That is definitely not like me.
Happy New Year!!! I hope 2026 is a good year for all of us. Wishing you the love of family and friends and the time to nourish your creativity and your soul.
We had a bit of snow here that lasted for a while due to the cold temperatures. I sat in my mobile studio outside the Swezy-Avey House in Yaphank to paint this. I was glad to see that the snow had remained on the trees and the shrubs.

Snowy Field
The snow we had was melting rather quickly. It had fallen off the trees and bushes but could still be found on the ground in some areas. I sketched this field in Brookhaven that still had snow on the ground.

Snowy Procreate
We had some snow on Sunday into Monday. It looked really pretty outside, but I opted to stay in and work on the commission I needed to finish and start working on my Christmas cards. Looking out the window in the afternoon I saw that there was a little yellow tone in the sky, so I pulled out my iPad and did a sketch in Procreate.

Snowman
After it snowed the other day I was driving through Sayville and had to stop and sketch this snowman. The house behind it still had a few Christmas decorations on the lawn and fence, but I used artistic license and left those items out.

Snowy View
We recently had about 4 inches of snow. Although it is an inconvenience it definitely improves the wintry look of things. This was painted in Brookhaven.

San Succi Preserve
I sat outside the entrance to San Succi Preserve in Holbrook to capture the snowy view there.
Our temperatures were still freezing today, but warmer temperatures are supposed to be on their way. The snow will probably be gone soon, so I'm glad I sketched it a few times.

Snowy View
We had a bit of snow recently. Not a lot, but because of the cold temperatures it is hanging around. It seems like New Orleans and some places in Florida actually got more snow than we did. lol I sat in the living room and used my iPad this time. Snow isn't easy to do.

Snowy Scene
Just in time for Christmas we had a bit of snow that stuck for a little while. I was headed to Nassau County to meet friends for lunch, but I had planned my day so I had some extra time to do some sketching before we met. I parked my new "mobile studio" in the parking lot of a local garden and painted as the snow was falling. By the afternoon the snow had melted, but it was nice to capture it while it was around.

Snow by the Fence
I had mail to take to the post office the other day, so after I dropped it off I sat in the post office parking lot in Holbrook to paint this snowy view. The snow has lasted longer than I expected. This was done in my Strathmore Toned Beige Sketchbook. White gouache was added for the snow.

Meadow Croft Snow
I headed to Meadow Croft, a historic estate in Sayville to see if there were any snow views. I tucked my car between a few trees and painted a bit of the property.
