I was out in East Moriches recently and passed this quirky bait and tackle shop....so of course I pulled over to sketch it. I loved all the things hanging on the building and piled next to it. I was painting from my car across the street in the only spot that had a really good view. The spot happened to be right next to someone's mailbox, so I was on the watch for a postal truck to come along to make a delivery. Luckily I didn't have to move for one.
Very nice!!!! Lots of beautiful details....
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hilda!
DeleteYou have got me looking around all over for parking places at things I want to try to sketch. There is an old redone train station that I want to try to complete but haven't found a good parking spot yet. Does that sound like an excuse?
ReplyDeleteLOL I have that problem with a lot of places I see...just no place to park. Some places I've gone back to several times for that reason.
DeleteWhat a super little building! You did such a nice job of this - all the way to the cute little welcome sign. I have no interest in painting on site like you and Nelvia but I am thinking about driving around and taking photos to paint from - that is my speed. Thanks for sharing Joan.
ReplyDeleteVal, I can understand that painting on site isn't for everyone. Thanks!!
DeleteLooking at your artwork is like a treasure hunt for details yielding wonderful and happy results!
ReplyDeleteMel, your comment is truly appreciated!
DeleteAlways a pleasure to see your outdoor sketches/paintings. This is a fun capture.
ReplyDeleteMs. Tavolatt,
ReplyDeleteThat shop is owned by Hank Kurz, a great friend and we ( meaning many of his friends) spent countless hours in that building. I used to live in East Moriches and now reside in Englewood Fl and would really like to have a copy of that print. Do you sell your work? By the way, a lot of that stuff piled on the side
of the shop was mine!
