First Painting for 2019

Wishing all of you a wonderful 2019!!!

Unlike past years I didn't force myself to stay up to ring in the new year...I was in bed by 10 last night. So this morning I was filled with energy to start the new year! If I am home on Long Island I try to get to the beach on the first day of the year and it seems like there are many people who feel the same way. It was overcast this morning but the heavy rains from last night were over. However it was very windy, which isn't usually a good thing at the beach. I headed over to Robert Moses State Park and the Fire Island Lighthouse. There were some really great clouds in the sky when I got there so I parked at an angle facing the lighthouse and did a small painting in my handmade sketchbook.

When I finished I bundled up and headed along the boardwalk to the lighthouse. It is always a nice walk and going it was easy because the wind was to my back. It is a narrow boardwalk and there were a lot of people, many of them with their dogs. It is always great to see people out enjoying nature. Unfortunately due to the government mini shutdown the lighthouse itself wasn't open today because it is part of the Fire Island National Seashore. The park itself is a state park so it was open.
Here are a few photos.

  2. You live in a great place with all these treasures to visit. Bummer about the gov shut down. Love the colors you used - especially in the sky.
LOVED reading your year in review. What a treat!
