Autumn Still Life

Our theme for the Patchogue Sketch Club last week was Thanksgiving. Pat brought in a fun jug and some dried Indian corn.

Clementine and Still Life Sketch

Both of these were done as items for the Creative Spark Scavenger Hunt.

The clementine was done with watercolors and a bit of white ink added to show the fibers.

This still life was done directly in watercolors.

Cyclamen Plant

For Valentine's Day Jerry bought me a bouquet of flowers and a cyclamen plant. The plant was wrapped in paper with Valentine hearts all over it. I did get to draw the cyclamen plant, but haven't done the bouquet yet.

Packaged Goods

On Wednesday the Patchogue Sketch Club's theme for the night was packaged goods...boxes, containers, bags, jars, etc. Here are a few things I sketched.

Continuous Line Sketch

I did a continuous line sketch for a scavenger hunt on Creative Spark. Of course when the sketch was done I added washes of color.

Still Life

I did this still life combining elements for Creative Spark.art...a butter dish, a vegetable, something red, and a mushroom. It is a continuous line sketch.

Here is the original line sketch.

Oyster Shells

Part of our dinner for Jerry's birthday were oysters on the half-shell from The Fish Store in Bayport...which were delicious! I saved some of the shells to do a still life. I like the rugged edges and bumpy textures of the shells. What do you think?

Bellport Snow & Still Life

While there was still snow on the ground recently I sat along Bell Street in Bellport to sketch some houses and snow right near the Bellport Historical Museum. I'm glad that I did because the snow was soon gone.

This still life was done for the Creative Spark scavenger hunt....something flexible, something inflexible, something round and something triangular.

Condiments

The weather outside has been wet and cold which makes sketching outdoors not very pleasant. The other day Jerry had a doctor's appointment in the morning, so by the time we got home and had lunch I wasn't inspired to go out looking for something to sketch. I like sketches of collections of items so I gathered some condiments together trying to vary the heights and shapes of the bottles as well as trying to keep color harmony. I like the way this came out. It was drawn first directly in ink and then the watercolor was added...often many layers to get the colors dark enough.

New Art Supplies & Assorted Objects

I was having fun with the continuous line sketches so I pulled out some of the new art supplies I got for Christmas and had a go sketching them that way. Then of course I added color.

While I was in a continuous line frame of mind I did a few items for the scavenger hunt over on creativespark.art. An umbrella, a bottle, a fruit, a veggie and a lock were on the list.

Pumpkins and Gourds

There are some people that don't like the bumpy pumpkins but I like some of them. They are so different. These were displayed at Olish's Farm in Eastport.

Bobbins & Buttons

On Saturday I joined the South Bay Art Association Sketch Group at the Brookhaven Free Library. Once a month they have been sketching a still life setup. We were supposed to sketch a vintage Singer sewing machine and items to go with it. There was a problem however. The cover of the sewing machine was locked and there was no key available. The member who owns it had it in her storage locker which had been broken into. Whoever broke in took the key and left the sewing machine. Linda didn't realize that once the cover was on it was locked. We played around with it a bit trying to unlock it but we had no success. Luckily Linda had brought along some jars filled with bobbins and buttons. We arranged them into an interesting still life and sketched that.

Still Life

A challenge was posted for a still life of at least 3 items on the scavenger hunt list over at Creativespark.art. I managed to get a bottle, a bowl, a fruit, a veggie and something yellow all into my painting.

I am hosting the Scavenger Hunt on creativespark.art. The challenge was to do a still life using 3 or more items from the hunt. Here's what I did.

Still Life with Veggies

For the last few days I didn't get out to sketch. Between physical therapy, waiting for a dryer repair, and the heat I barely squeaked out some time for the pool. But while waiting for the repairman I put together a few things from the fridge for a still life.

Cherries

On one of our recent rainy days I set up a still life with cherries and fabric. They were two of the items on the last Wet Canvas Scavenger Hunt.
