Inktober Day 13 - Fall Decorations

Today I sketched the fall decorations at Olish's Farm in Eastport. There were pumpkins everywhere! I was definitely feeling the spirit of autumn. This little girl was all set with her pumpkin.

Inktober 2018 - Day 22

With thoughts of autumn in my head I decided to find a local farmstand to sketch for my Day 22 of Inktober 2018. This was done from my car at The Pumpkin Patch, a tiny farm stand in Yaphank. They had a nice setup of autumn and Halloween related items outside the small building. It was worth the trip since I got to sketch and bought some local tomatoes and corn.

Another Autumn Path

I knew there was a reason I was doing so many autumn paintings...because the leaves would soon be gone. I did this one (which looks a lot like the one I posted yesterday minus the people) on a wet, drizzly day here in NY this week. I had to keep putting on my wipers as I sat in the car.

Walk to the Water

I love paths that head down the street. This was done locally of a path that headed toward the bay with Fire Island in the background.

Autumn on Long Island

Here are two more small autumn paintings I did. I love looking down some of the narrow side streets and seeing just an abundance of color going all the way back.

This one was painted on South Powells Road in Bellport.

Arthur Avenue in Brookhaven was the location for this one.

Autumn 1

I know these autumn leaves can't last for much longer, so I'm trying to capture them as much as possible. I painted this one from the parking lot by a local school.

Bush Farm

Our plein air group was invited to Bush Farm this week to paint. The owners of this farm have collected all kinds of antique farm equipment and the barn and the grounds are full of it. The autumn colors were perfect and the barn was calling out to be painted. This is 8 x 10.

Autumn Explosion

The colors here on Long Island are beautiful, or would be beautiful if the sun came out to shine on them. We had mild temps today but the sun barely made an appearance. I did paint this on location (not in my car) and the fishermen all stopped to say something to me. One wanted to make sure he didn't get in my way...it was nice that he asked. This is a pond that is formed by the Connectquot River in Oakdale. This is 5 x 7.

Park Entrance

I found this path in the middle of the autumn colors by a park in Sayville. If you walk along the path you end up at the water.

Autumn Reflections

I took a ride up to Setauket the other day and the colors near the pond were really nice.
The reflected colors were fun to play with too.
This is 5 x 7.

I hope everyone had a fun Halloween yesterday!
I took the day off from blogging and went to visit friends who own a wine store in NJ. Their downtown gets shut down to traffic and all the trick-or-treaters come along the stores (luckily they meet them outside because I can't imagine that number of children inside any business). I must say I have never seen so many children and parents trick-or-treating before! I did consider trying to sketch (before I saw the crowds) but there was such craziness and so many people it just wasn't possible.
In about 1 1/2 hours we gave out more than 2,000 pieces of candy!

Luckily since they own the wine store we were able to relax a bit later with some wine and dinner. And the nice thing was I slept over and didn't have to drive home last night.

Harvest Ready I & II

Last week when I went to the north fork of Long Isand I found this spot to paint with a view of the local farmland. Of course it was on the main road and not really a safe place to sit in traffic the way people drive sometimes. So I sat on the shoulder of the road and painted from my car. I did a small 5 x 7 and was really happy with the way it came out.

I liked the spot so much I decided to go back on Friday and do a larger painting of the same spot. This one is 8 x 10. They are very similar, but there are differences. Which one do you prefer?
