Condiments

The weather outside has been wet and cold which makes sketching outdoors not very pleasant. The other day Jerry had a doctor's appointment in the morning, so by the time we got home and had lunch I wasn't inspired to go out looking for something to sketch. I like sketches of collections of items so I gathered some condiments together trying to vary the heights and shapes of the bottles as well as trying to keep color harmony. I like the way this came out. It was drawn first directly in ink and then the watercolor was added...often many layers to get the colors dark enough.

Bottle Sketches

I've been pretty busy lately getting ready for Christmas and I haven't had much time to sketch. I did sketch a few bottles for the Scavenger Hunts on crebativespark.art. Here are a few of them.

The last of my cookies are in the oven right now. I spent most of today making pierogi for tomorrow night's dinner. Even though it will be just Jerry and me for dinner I like having the traditional food that my family always had on Christmas Eve. I've been following a woman who writes a blog about Polish foods and traditions. Her family does 12 dishes on Christmas Eve. It is fun to read about what she makes and see if I recognize anything. My mother's side came from Poland, but my dad's side was from Hungary and we know very little about that side of the family.

What do you traditionally eat on Christmas Eve?

Bottles and Glasses

On Wednesday the Patchogue Sketch Club met and our theme was Glass Bottles, Glasses, Jars and Objectss Made of Glass. I sketched a variety of items that people brought. the perfume bottle and the cruet on the top left were items I brought. The brown bottle with the glass in front was found by a clammer in the bay. The glass was made of what looked to be Venetian glass. I don't have stories for the other bottles, but it was a fun night.
