Hunt Sketches

A recent Creative Spark Scavenger Hunt list included a building, stairs, a sign, and a vehicle. I got them all covered in one.

The items were something orange, something green, and something blue. This was done mostly with Neocolors which I wasn"t too thrilled with.

And finally maybe the item was some kind of jewelry. Is was a cameo that belonged to my grandmother. Rumor had it that my Uncle Joe (her youngest son) brought it back when he returned from serving in the army in WWII.

Hunt Items

I still participate in the scavenger hunts on Creative Spark. It is a challenge finding some of the items that people put on their lists.

Sketch Update

Here are some assorted recent sketches done for the Creative Spark Scavenger Hunts. I did a few, like the eggplant, the apple, and the lavender using Zebra fountain pens with water-soluble colored inks and added watercolors. The pens bleed nicely.

I had my iPad with me at the pool recently and did this sketch of one of my pregnant neighbors. It was hard seeing what I was doing in the bright sunshine but I did my best.

WIP Fruits & Veggies

My plein air group visited Andrews Family Farm in Wading River this week. It is one of my favorite places to paint. The owners are so welcoming. The painting isn't finished yet, but I cropped this part and used it for the creativespark.art Scavenger Hunt...two of the items were fruit and veggies. Although I painted there for nearly 2 hours I need to do more work on this. I will post it when it is completed.

Fruit, Cosmetics & a Show

The Patchogue Sketch Club has been meeting indoors since the days are shorter. One week we sketched fruit. Here is my assortment.

One of the members of our group arranged for our members to have our artwork on exhibit for the month of October at the Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild in Cutchogue. Most of us had 4 pieces of work hanging. Last Sunday we had our closing reception.

This week we were back sketching indoors and our theme had to do with cosmetics.

Fruit

The Patchogue Sketch Club met on Wednesday at the library and our theme was fruit. I stopped at the grocery store to see if I could find something unusual but all I found was the regular fruit selection. I did specially buy an individual clementine with a stem attached. (I usually just buy a big bag.) Just my luck that by the time I got to the library the stem fell off. I spent a lot of time putting it back on just for the sketch. lol

Cherries

On one of our recent rainy days I set up a still life with cherries and fabric. They were two of the items on the last Wet Canvas Scavenger Hunt.

Fruit

I'm trying to combine several things that I'm doing. One of the items in the Wet Canvas Scavenger Hunt was fruit...and more than one. This was done from a still life setup so it fits.  This also fits into the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge.

Juicy 1 & 2

Both of these were done in direct watercolor for the 30 x 30 Challenge. I'm so way behind that I'm not making an effort to finish. I'm lucky if I've been able to do much of any art lately. I just don't have the inspiration at the same time that I have my materials nearby. For some reason my small set of paints were on the table and I grabbed the fruit and painted it quickly before I ate it.

I take part in the Wet Canvas Scavenger Hunts and do some small sketches or assorted still life sketches that I save like these.

Still Life With Fruit

Wednesday night the Patchogue Sketch Club met on Zoom. Mark set up another still life for us to sketch...this time it was mostly fruit. He had promised all the colors and he didn't disappoint. He did sneak in the hand and his mannekin.

Nectarines in a Bowl

I never got to sketch anything yesterday until the evening, so I thought a still life was in order. I played around with an arrangement of the nectarines I had bought and the bowl which was a gift from my sister.

I still haven't figured out how to post on the new format for Blogger. I can get as far as the title of the post and then there is no way to post the text for the body of the post or include an image. Are any of you having the same problem? Eventually they won't let me revert to the original format. Then what happens?

Watermelon

I bought a watermelon last week and it sat on my counter. I knew I wanted to paint it, but the thought of cutting it up held me back. Finally I grabbed the knife and it was worth doing. Look at that rich, colorful inside! It was a perfect subject. This is a direct watercolor.

Fruit Still Life

The other night the Patchogue Sketch Club had a Zoom meeting. We talked a lot and shared some of the artwork we had done recently. But seeing that it was "sketch night" some of us sketched while we were chatting. I gathered some of the fruit that was around the kitchen and this was the result.

Inktober Day 8 - Fruit and Veggies

One good thing about liking to eat fruit and veggies is that it always provides sketching materials.

Still Life with Fruit

Our Tuesday portrait group wasn't able to get a model so we decided to do a still life. A few of us brought in assorted items including fruit.

Fruit Night

My sketch group met on Wednesday and everyone brought along fruit to sketch. I pretty much brought everything I had including a pomegranate which I had cut. I had to be careful with that so that I didn't end up with pom juice all over everything. lol I set up a still life for myself.

Here i s a photo of me holding my sketch taken by my friend, Pat Sweeney.

Farmers Market Sketches

On the Urban Sketchers flickr the weekly theme is fruit.
Where better to find fruit to sketch than the farmers market? So I headed over to the Sayville Farmers Market this morning. I wanted to do some close up sketches rather than doing the booths.

First I sketched the produce at Stan & Pat's booth.

Then I went over to "Fly In & Pig Out" run by Sweet Melissa, of Sweet Melissa's Dips and Catering in Rocky Point. She sells produce that she says is mostly Italian...I kept hearing about figs in her discussion with other shoppers. I guess I'll have to go back and try them. She had some interesting curling Italian Squash. There was cheddar cheese cauliflower too. The dips looked and sounded interesting...you could taste them if you wanted. Too bad my hands were so busy.
Melissa was very friendly and I will have to visit there again.

My thanks to both vendors for allowing me to sketch their merchandise!

Trio

The other day I bought a pomegranate. I have seen them in some wonderful paintings but it will be a new subject for me. Of course I wanted to paint it before I cut it, so that was yesterday's project. It looked too lonely by itself, so I gave it a few friends for company. This is 5 x 7.
