Maybe Guacamole

One of the items for the Creative Spark Scavenger Hunt was "jalapeno." I don't normally have them in the house so I picked one up at the store. Rather than sketch it alone I added in the avocado and some garlic. Guacamole anyone?

Veggie Still Life Sketches

I did a few still life sketches using veggies. Most of these were done for hunt items for Creative Spark's Scavenger Hunts. The top and bottom one were done postcard size so I could use them in the postcard project.

Cabbages are not easy to paint. There are too many overlapping leaves and veins in the leaves.

This one was done as a continuous line sketch (see the bottom photo). I like the way some people have done pepper paintings so I went off to buy a few interesting peppers at the market. Sadly, most of the peppers were green and not all that distinctive, or else really tiny. So I bought a red onion for color and threw in some garlic too.

Still Life with Veggies

For the last few days I didn't get out to sketch. Between physical therapy, waiting for a dryer repair, and the heat I barely squeaked out some time for the pool. But while waiting for the repairman I put together a few things from the fridge for a still life.

Garlic

I am finally almost at the end of the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge. This time I did a head of garlic.

Still Life Trio

Sometimes I just don't get out to do a sketch...yes, that happens. I had a bit of car trouble so I decided to stay home until I was able to have my car looked at. Of course I had to paint something...so I looked around and found the last of my juicy tomatoes from the farmstand. The onion and garlic jumped in and I had what I was looking for. Please enjoy!

Garlic

We are having really hot weather so the last few days when I have some free time I've been spending it at the pool. Usually Jerry does his exercising and walking in the early part of the day when he has energy. Then he relaxes in the afternoon. That's when I scoot out for a while if I can. I leave him everything he needs including a cell phone in case he needs me. The pool is 2 minutes away. My sketching time is pretty much done in the evening so I either use photos or something I can use or a still life. Today it is garlic. Not very exciting especially since this one didn't have much color to the skins. This is small and blowing it up shows where the watercolor didn't really cover the background well. But I post perfect and imperfect here.

30 x 30 - Direct Watercolor - Day 20 - Still Life

Rather than driving around in the rain and looking for another view to paint from my mobile studio I decided to do a  still life. I dug through the fridge to see what I could find that had some color. The garlic was hard to do since it is so light but it was fun to play with the colors in the papery skin.

30 Day Challenge - Day 5 - Avocado Time

No landscape today. Instead for Day 5 of Leslie Saeta's "30 Paintings in 30 Days" challenge I did a still life using some foods I had in the kitchen. I had put a large hole in the side of my tire and only had the donut on my car. I didn't want to go looking for a landscape until I got the tire replaced, which I will do this morning. This was done with gouache.

My thanks to my friend, Celia Blanco for the inspiration.  She did a painting of an avocado recently that I loved.
