Stony Brook Train Station

Every time I pass this train station I think to myself that it is like a small town America station. The only problem is there is really no place to sit to sketch it most of the time. I was finally able to do it after the snow when the bank across the street was closed. I sat in their parking lot right past the drive through hoping nobody would come along on this snowy day and need me to move. lol

  1. Beautifully painted, Joan. It looks like the typical RR station somewhere Upstate....it's a wonderful painting...I love the color of the trim and the old fashioned street lamp!! The snow is amazing as always!!!

  2. I love this Joan! You said it is "like" small town America, so does that mean it isn't in a small town? It's certainly very picturesque!

  4. Precious to me. As a child I'd take the train an hours ride (by car) to my grandparents from a station like this one. (in California). Never in snow however, LOL. Your snow pictures are wonderful. And the fact that you paint or draw plien air in the snow even from your car boggles my mind.

  6. I love train stations. This one is cute! It always saddens me when those old gorgeous brick small town stations are torn down!

  8. Hilda - Thanks. It has much more charm that the ones in Lynbrook & East Rock.

Wendy - Thank you I guess Stony Brook is a medium sized town. I'm surprised the train station is so small. There is a big college and a bit hospital nearby.

Tina - LOL Yes, strategic parking.

Lynn - Thanks. I hate staying inside. I'm always off roaming around so the car works out well.

    Polly - Thank you.

Sherry - Thanks. Here they often close up the buildings at the station, put a ticket machine outside, and then the building gets neglected and looks like an eyesore.

Kevin - You are too sweet! Thank you.
