Snow Shadows

Last week I went over to Connectquot State Park in Oakdale to see if I could find a nice snowy view. It had just snowed a bit, and I drove up near the fish hatchery. The snowplow was busy working in the parking area there, so once he cleared a spot I pulled in. There were nice shadows on the snow so I was happy.

We are having another snowstorm today. I think we have about 6 inches so far. It looks pretty....but very white. Here are a few photos I took today standing right outside my front door. I did start a painting which I haven't finished yet. It needs a bit more work, so I will post it when it is done.

There were a lot of birds at the bird feeder. I guess it is there only hope for food right now.
There is one hiding in the branches...too bad it wasn't a cardinal so it would show up better.

  1. You did a lovely jobs with the snowy shadows Joan!
What an amazing view from your front door - stunning! So magical looking!
Looks like you have a great spot in a rural area yet must be very close to New York city for all your sketch group meetings?
    Loved your tea-set too!

  2. Terrific shadows and a lovely winter scene! The snow is building and looks pretty but it must be cold.

  3. Lovely colours in this snowscene. Trying to imagine you in your car painting in the cold

  4. I do so love the snow and we're supposed to have a winter storm watch in effect later today. As long as no one gets hurt, I do so love it! Your painting is beautiful, Joan!

  5. Wendy - Thanks. We face a wooded area which is nicer than facing the parking lot on the other side of the building. There is a fence behind those trees and other houses, but I like having the trees there.

Celia - Thank you. I didn't go out past my front door...maybe I'll take a drive to take photos today.

Polly - Thanks. It is a bit cramped in the car but it works well considering the alternative.

Sherry - That's how I feel about the snow. But we are expecting another round tonight. Thanks so much.

  6. A lovely scene and I like the frosty photos. How do you keep warm when you paint in your car? Do you leave the engine on?

  7. Lorraine - Thanks. I just dress warmly and I don't usually get cold unless it is brutally cold. I have gloves and my fingerless gloves just in case I need them. I don't like to keep the engine running if I don't have to.
