30 in 30 - Day 14 - Annie

Today is Day 14 of the "30 Paintings in 30 Days" Challenge. My internet friend, Jean Ogden, has a group of assorted animals. From what I know of Jean she studied zoology which may explain her menagerie of animals. Annie is a Chinese Crested, an unusual looking dog if I may say so...big hair and a bald body. When I saw her I knew I had to paint her. I decided to experiment a little this time using an underpainting of assorted colors of oil pastels as a resist for the fur on her head. Then I used watercolors and some assorted inks to get the dark areas.

Don't forget to check out the work of the other artists participating in the 30 day challenge. There are some great pieces. https://www.saetastudio.com/30-in-30-blog

This Tuesday morning Ariana posed for our art group.

  1. Well guess who I am next to this morning on Leslie's site - great minds do think alike. This is a very unusual dog and your process too. Oil pastels as the base with watercolor over the top? Hmmm got to think of that one a bit. Love the sketch.

    1. The first time I saw a dog like this in person I couldn't believe it. I thought someone had shaved it, but that's how they are. lol Thanks.

  2. What a strange looking little dog but I must say that your painting gave me a chuckle. Any day you can laugh is a good day - thanks Joan

    1. They looks so scrawny because their bodies are hairless, but they have such fun heads. They definitely make me cringe and then smile.

  3. Annie's little head is super Joan. Also you did a wonderful job capturing her bald body. Never saw a dog like this before. Ariana looks like a wonderful subject too. Hope you have a lovely week-end. Hugs!
