Daisy is another of the three cats owned by my friend, Rhea. It is Rhea's reference photo that I used for today's Day 8 painting for the "30 Paintings in 30 Days" Challenge. This time I used mostly watercolor pencils (chocolate, gunmetal and ultramarine) along with touches of watercolors. So far that's the best I've found to do the textures and colors of the fur on the light colored animals.

What no drawings today, I got spoiled. I love all the soft background colors and I haven't used watercolor pencils that much but I never got such nice softness out of them. Like his eyes in this one. Yes we were supposed to (weathermen promised) get 4-6" of snow, no snow but ice. It was beautiful but we crossed our fingers we kept power, we did so far. Anyway now we are in the teens with wind chill below zero, know it must really be cold where you are. Ah, have to admit I didn't make it to Wetcanvas but scavenger
ReplyDeletehunt as I got sidetracked with monoprinting. But today is another day!! :D)
Thanks! It is mighty cold here...too cold to venture out anywhere. I will have to sketch the views out the windows. lol
DeleteThis is super Joan. I wonder which is harder - a light coloured animal or a dark one. I had a black cat that would sit in a black cauldron and she blended right in - would have be a real challenge to paint. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteVal, thanks! Both dark and light are hard in their own way...but I think the dark animals are harder, especially with watercolors.
DeleteSuch a gorgeous cat and painting of it. I love it's expression and abundance furriness. Happy New Year Joan, and thanks for your visits to my blog and all your kind comments.
ReplyDeleteLynn, thanks for visiting! I'm having fun with these.
DeleteThis is really gorgeous, Joan! I think you're really onto something with colored pencils and fur texture! I sometimes copy photos of wild animals from calendars and books, and I find colored pencils and watercolor pencils to be the best for both fur and feathers.

ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. Painting light coloured animals is a real challenge. You have a delicate touch and depicted it so well.
