The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens - Part 2

After people sketching at lunch (see post below) it was time to sketch the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens itself again. I walked around all the different areas but each of them felt too hot  (Did I really say that?)  so I went upstairs to the Bonsai Museum where I knew it would be colder. I had to put my coat back on to sketch in there, but I love the grace and elegance of the plants there so I happily put up with the colder temperatures.

The entryway had some nicely landscaped areas and I tried to capture the little waterfall over the rocks.

Around 3:30 we headed over to Tooker Alley to share a drink and our sketches. It is always such a pleasure to see all the work that everyone did during the day. What a perfect time to get acquainted with Florian who was visiting from Berlin, as well as today's new members...and to catch up with our regular members. It is also a perfect opportunity for another sketch, so I zeroed in on the couple sitting at the bar nearby.

It was a fun day. I really look forward to sketching with the group, but I will miss this weekend and next because I am away.

  1. I just love your greens, Joan. You always capture such beautiful and natural colors when you paint landscapes or plants.

  2. Beautiful sketches Joan...I love the sketch of the two people sitting by the bar.. nice work...

  3. Joan - the bonsai sketch as well as the others were wonderful. Sounds like you had a delightful day. Hope that you are going for warmer weather while you are away. If you find some - send it my way - hugs!

  4. Love the bonsai sketch Joan - great pictures of the botanical gardens! I enjoyed catching up on some of your previous posts too and was fascinated to read about your childhood memories - how amazing spending part of your childhood in Jamaica!! Very exotic!!

  5. Thanks Sherry, Hilda, Debbi, and Wendy!

Wendy, I grew up in Jamaica, NY not the island. Sorry you misunderstood.

  6. Ha ha! silly me! I thought you had meant you came back to NY for boarding school! New York is still very exotic to me!!
