North Fork Sketches

On Saturday I took a trip out to the north fork of Long Island. The farmland was in its glory.
Pumpkins are starting to appear.

I wandered some of the back roads and found this section and New Suffolk Beach.
It was still warm enough to sit out on the beach and paint.

  1. Some more super sketches of London in the previous post Joan. You have really captured the feeling of the place and also brought back some memories. I can remember going to Carnaby Street way back in the 80's to buy clothes and obscure records that I couldn't get in my home town (I lived in Luton, about 30 miles away back then). Ah, carefree days they were too!! I love these North Fork pictures!! Great colours in the beach scene, the sky is very good too, the picture has a quiet, remote feel too it which is very appealing to me. A brilliant job on the pumpkin field, once again you've nailed the dense complex foliage. When those pumpkins grow big they will offer a feast of colour contrast and interest!!! Great work!!!

  2. I wish I was close enough to the beach to be able to do a few such scenes. Might be something to do from the car one of these weekends. You truly are an inspiration, Joan. These are perfect.

  3. Pumpkins! No!!!! These are both beautiful. I may need to take a ride out to the north fork one of these days. I love being at the beach after the summer ends and no one is there.

  4. Thanks, Kevin. I was in London many, many years ago.

Sherry - I love painting at the beach especially at this time of year when it is cool and comfy. Thank you.

Carol - Thanks! I love it out there but the weekends get so crowded and crazy. I'm glad I get to go out during the week sometimes.

  9. Dear Joan - these are great...I love how you captured the sea and the shore with the fence. The pumpkin patch looks very similar to the ones I see around here too. Thanks for sharing. Hope you have a beautiful day.
