Today was the date of the World Wide Sketchcrawl which I usually take part in. However I was up in Maine since Tuesday and was driving home today. I knew I would be behind the wheel all day, so when I went out for my walk this morning in Damariscotta I took along some postcard sized paper and my pens. (I forgot my wc palette...would you believe it!) I had my Lamy pen filled with a nice brown ink that bleeds very nicely so I did these that way to get a watery effect.
First I sketched by the waterfront behind some of the shops in town where I was attacked by gnats while I very quickly worked on this.
Then I did a sketch of Pine Tree Yarns on Main Street.
Then I walked up Glidden Street on the Newcastle side of the bridge.
This big tree caught my attention.
Then it was back to my sister's house for a shower, breakfast, and packing for the trip home.
I did have a nice time, and got to spend some quality time with family, especially my niece, Kathleen who lives and works as a dancer in Australia now and hasn't been home in 2 years. She took the trip back in the car with me so she can visit some college friends in NY before she flies home this week.
Here is a photo of Kathleen with our lunch at Bob's Clam Shack in Kittery, Maine on the way home.
I love these sketches

ReplyDeleteLove these sketches and would love to see you use ink more often, Joan. You do it beautifully!
ReplyDeletePolly - Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHilda - It wasn't my usual material but it worked. Thank you.
Sherry - Thanks so much.
Love these sketches and love how the ink spreads, very nice. ...Do more of them :)
ReplyDeleteThese are great!! I love this sort of work, speedy and economical, it often captures the essence of a scene better than more detailed work. Lovely fresh stuff!!
ReplyDeleteYour commitment to sketching is to be applauded, even when you are not where you thought you would be or even when you don't have all your gear you still create , wonderful
ReplyDeleteAnn - I always think about doing the ink washes but the color usually wins. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteKevin - Thank you. I did work quickly.
Lorraine - Thanks. I had to work with what I did have or not work at all.
Glad that you were able to sketchcrawl, even with your long drive ahead of you. Damariscotta is a good place to find subjects for a quick sketchcrawl.
