Sayville Beach

I've sat down by Sayville Beach and sketched this view many times. This time I used my iPad and Procreate.

Sayville Beach

Last week we had a day that was warm enough to sit down by the beach in the afternoon and sketch. I went to the beach by the Sayville Marina. The beach itself was closed for the season...no lifeguards, but there were a few other people sitting in beach chairs on the sand.

Sayville Beach

Sometimes the sky is just so pretty that I have to stop and paint it. The best place to do that is usually by the beach or the bay where there is nothing to block the views. This was done down by Sayville Beach.

Mixed Foliage

I like when shrubs are surrounded by other foliage. This is one of the piney trees down by the bay in Sayville.

Snow By The Dunes

The weather has improved since our snow storm and with a few days of above freezing temperatures and some rain, a lot of the snow is gone. Smaller piles still exist where the snow was plowed and some of it just settled in by the dunes. This was sketched from my mobile studio near Sayville Beach.

Inktober Day 19 & Random Food Sketches

I'm still practicing using the Chinese ink and my twigs to do sketches. Inktober Day 19 was done down by Sayville Beach looking from the parking lot.

These food sketches were done at assorted times for the WetCanvas Scavenger Hunts. I hope they don't make you too hungry. The top one is octopus salad and the bottom one is half of my hubby's crab leg sandwich.

Trees by the Water

I was down by the bay beach in Sayville. It was a windy day but the trees looked good against the sky.

Ink Sketches

The other day I was down at Sayville Beach and did a few sketches just in ink.

Relaxing

I tend to gravitate to the same locations over and over and Sayville Beach Park is one of those places. This time I was in my mobile studio facing the tennis courts. There were some young boys hanging around with their bikes. When I first started the sketch there were three boys, but of course one of them had to get up and start riding around. These two pretty much sat still until I had sketched them and then all three of them were zooming around the tennis courts on their bikes. (Off to my left blocked by a few SUVs they were setting up chairs for an outdoor wedding facing the water. I'm sure it would have been nice to sketch but I couldn't hang around that long.)

Over the Fence

The flowering trees have really captured my attention this year. This was sketched in Sayville down by the beach. This fence was facing the parking lot at the beach. I used white gouache and watercolors for this and it was done on Strathmore tan toned paper.

Assorted Sketches

The first two sketches here were done for a recent Wet Canvas Scavenger Hunt. The bottom page of people was done while enjoying the sun down at Sayville Beach over the weekend.

Beach Road

I like sketching streets with all the wires and views to the distance. This was done from a park down by Sayville Beach by Foster Ave and River Road. Most of the houses here ended up being raised up after Hurricane Sandy.

Wisteria

At the back of the parking lot at Sayville Beach is a house that has cascades of wisteria growing tangled in its bushes. I love how it looks but it is difficult to sketch/paint it since the area is so dense with foliage. I gave it a try anyway before I went down by the beach to read.

Sayville Beach

I was able to sit down by the water at Sayville Beach the other day. It was warm enough to sit there if you found a way to block the wind. I sat so that the town building was on the windy side. I've always found this cluster of trees interesting.

View from Sayville Beach

There are a few views if you sit on the tiny beach along the bay in Sayville. I usually sketch the trees and people in the other direction, but this day looked over the dunes to the Wet Pants Sailing Group's building.

Sayville Beach

Back last Sunday, before we had our cold spell, I went to the tiny bay beach in Sayville. Right past the small dunes are a few benches that always get a fun cast of characters. I was sitting in my beach chair on the sand while I was sketching.

Lifeguards

Being an avid beach person I know how important these people are. They will sit up there even on cold, windy days when nobody is in the water. I had to sketch these two ladies at Sayville Beach.
