Scavenger Hunt Items

 These small sketches were done for the Creative Spark Scavenger Hunt recently. One item was neglected and this building has some loose panels and broken window panes.

Another item was something used in construction. They are completely redoing a mall down the street from us and you can always find some construction vehicles being uses or waiting to be used.

Construction

It seems like there is a lot of construction going on around here. This was spotted in Bayport but I'm not sure what they were doing since there were no signs around. 

Street Construction

The other day I was riding around looking for some colorful trees in Bayport. Out of the corner of my eye I spied some activity going on...road work! Yay!! I went around the block so I could be facing what was going on and lucked out because it was a street that was really free of other cars parked, so I had a good view. Workers in yellow vests, a Komatsu digger, a truck with supplies, cones, a "road work ahead" sign and colorful autumn leaves...what a great cast of characters!

Construction Sites

 I'm not sure what was being constructed here in this spot overlooking Brown's River. Will have to go back and check their progress and see.

Here was another site where it didn't look like anything was being built. This was in Bayport.

Equipment

Yesterday I was out for a bit and looked for something that would fit the current Scavenger Hunt on Wet Canvas. One of the items was a piece of heavy machinery or construction equipment. This was parked in the corner of the parking lot by one of the markets...far from anyone else. Sketched from inside my mobile studio.

My niece-in-law posted this on her FB page as a sort of challenge to do to keep us entertained.

Sandspit Marina

I overheard a woman talking the other day about the work being done down at Sandspit Marina in Patchogue. Apparently from the recent hurricanes and storms the jetty and part of the marina needs to be replaced, so there are several construction vehicles working there now taking out some of the rocks, silt, and whatever that is along the end of the marina. It must be a fascinating spot because while I sat there in my car there were a fair number of vehicles that pulled up to face the construction area to watch the work. Of course the majority of the cars were driven by men...I guess the construction "toys" were too good to pass up. The machine I sketched was in constant motion but the good thing was the base stayed put and only the top rotated...and it always returned to the same position. I did leave out the chain link fencing that separated the public from the action, but made sure to put in that danger sign just in case.
