I was looking for a place to sketch from the car yesterday seeing how our "spring" isn't warm enough to sit out yet. I drove over to Blue Point right near Flo's Luncheonette. Across Middle Road is a little park near one of the canals. I decided to sketch this boathouse...it looks like it needs a bit of love.
This is about 4 x 6 and was done in my Stillman & Birn Alpha Journal.

You always manage to get so much detail in such a little area. Lovely memory of your drive out today.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely painting and interesting view.
ReplyDeleteI take my hat off to you as to how you capture so much in such a small painting.
ReplyDeleteVery lovely, Joan... How long does it take you to do a small painting like this? You always seem to capture just enough detail without going overboard.
ReplyDeleteLovely little sketch Joan. I really like moments captured like this and you've caught it so well. It's absolutely charming!!
ReplyDeleteJoan, I love the way you painted the water especially! You must have some wonderful sketchbooks!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful sketch, Joan! I love the reflections in the water!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura, Ann, Lorraine, Tina, Kevin, Sherry and Hilda!
ReplyDeleteTina - These small ones take me about 45 min to an hour, depending on the detail.
Joan!
ReplyDeleteAnd your painting gives it plenty of love!
So very, very nice!
Hopefully it will get warmer soon!
Michael
Joan the boathouse does look like it might need some care but what I found interesting was the old red house behind it. Makes me wonder if it was abandoned. As always I love seeing what you are sketching.
