Bay View

There are many roads here that lead down to the bay with a view toward Fire Island across the water. This was sketched in Bayport.

Suffolk County Farm

 I hadn't been to the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank to visit the animals in a long time. It seemed warm enough the other day to actually sit outside so I walked through the farm and found some of the cows inside the pen, near enough to see them and sketch.

Expressions

 On Wednesday night the Patchogue Sketch Club theme was Expressions. We were given around 20 minutes to sketch each of these faces when they were posted. I got there a bit late so I ended up taking a screen shot of that happy baby so I could finish the sketch. We all groaned when Mark put the last one on Zoom for us to draw...not one face but two!!

Beer and Cocktails

I went out to sketch the other day only to have it start raining. I ended up in the parking area for one of the  Fire Island ferries in Patchogue. The beer & cocktail shed was closed for the season but I though it was cute anyway. Once it opens up for the season I don't think I'm allowed to park in the lot since I'm not a resident and I'm not taking the ferry.

Week's Boats & On Exhibit

 Week's Boatyard is one of those places that I tend to go when I can't decide where to sketch. The last time I was there it was so crowded with boats in dry dock for the winter that you could barely drive in. I didn't get far onto the property when I spotted this boat that became my COI. Of course there were layers of boats behind it too.

Grand Central Terminal Expo is UP.

Come one! Come All! Come to see The work of the NYC Urban Sketchers mounted in an explosion in Grand Central Terminal. The pictures are exhibited on the temporary walls constructed in the main hall and some hallways. The exhibit will be up until the walls come down in the late spring/early summer. (by Raylie Dunkel)

While GCT is doing some construction the NYC Urban Sketchers were invited to submit samples of their sketches for an exhibition on the temporary walls. Each sketcher was allowed to submit up to 3 sketches for consideration.I know that this one of my sketches was accepted and is hanging there. I'm not sure about the others. This is the sketch that a fellow sketcher snapped a photo of when she was there today.

Galapagos Visit

 On Saturday the NYC Urban Sketchers virtually visited the Galapagos Islands. Our guide was one of our members, Alan Wernike who has actually visited the area. He did a wonderful introduction to the animals of the area in the morning and then a great introduction to the land forms in the afternoon. Because of the isolation of the islands and how they are protected the creatures have little or no fear of humans.

I decided to focus on some of the creatures that inhabit the Galapagos and do an entire page of small sketches. Here is how I composed the page.

Snow Plow

 Somehow I forgot about this sketch. After our snowstorms I kept passing these snowplows that were parked in a mostly empty large parking lot near my bank. Most of the stores in the little mini mall have closed so it is rare to see anything there. For a while they were parked so that the plows were against the fence so there was no real good way to see the whole structure. But the other day they had been moved and turned the other way...so I had to sketch this.
