Mark as a Model

Our Wednesday night sketch group was scheduled for a model last week, but the model had an emergency and couldn't come. So our organizer, Mark posed for us. He's pretty good, and as an artist himself he came up with a few unusual poses. Most of these are 5 or 10 minute poses. I used an assortment of media.

In the pose on the right he was actually holding a chair straight up in the air.

Lefty Lucy Quick Sketches

Last night Lefty Lucy posed in costume like Captain America. She starts posing at 7:00. Unfortunately I had another meeting to attend at 8:00. I figured that I'd rater sketch of of the poses than not do any of them at all, so I did the 1, 2, and 5 minute poses and missed out on the longer poses. As you can see I don't always get to finish the sketches on the short poses...especially when I'm trying

I received some sad news today. One of my favorite watercolor artists, Jerry (Gerald) Brommer passed away. I took 3 different week-long workshops with Jerry when I used to go to the Springmaid Watermedia Workshops in Myrtle Beach. He was a talented artist, instructor, author of books on different kinds of art techniques (many of which were staples in art classes), and just a wonderful sweet man with a great sense of humor. He was an excellent teacher and during the time I took the classes I really enjoyed talking to him and learning from him. I am so glad that I purchased one of his paintings at one of the workshops. He and his wife, Georgia (who always came to the resort with him and supplied chocolates for the students) both had been hospitalized with Covid 19 recently. Here is a photo from one of the workshops I took with him. RIP, Jerry and keep your brushes wet!

Lefty Lucy Veiled & Inktober Day 14

Last night was Lefty Lucy Costumed in Quarantine night. She posed again on Zoom, this time in a beautiful black dress and a veiled headpiece...and a few times with a revolver. As I've said before I never know what to expect.

These are 5 minute poses.

These are 10 minute poses.

This was the final sketch of the night for 20 minutes.

My Day 14 Inktober sketch was done down by Sayville Marina Park. I did this from my mobile studio while it was drizzling.

Costumed in Quarantine

Tonight was another session with Lefty Lucy and Costumed in Quarantine. This time she was dressed like a cat with a mask that someone had made for her. She has such a great body and face that it seemed a shame to cover it with a mask and a furry jacket. I guess I sort of got into it by the mid point in the sketching. I imagine that the costume was a bit warm and the mask must have been hot. She said it was roomy on the inside. Here are some of the sketches I did.

Costumed in Quarantine

A fellow NYC sketcher told me about a sketch event that was publicized on Facebook. Last night the entertaining Lefty Lucy held an event where she modeled live on YouTube. It was a socially distancing event called "Costumed in Quarantine." The poses ranged from 2 minutes to 20 minutes.

These are the 2 to 5 minute poses that she started with.

These were the 5 minute and 10 minute sketches.

This was my favorite sketch which was a 20 minute sketch. There was another 20 minute sketch but I missed it.

Dr Sketchy's NYC

There are all kinds of fun sketching opportunities while we are
inside practicing social distancing. Today there was a figure drawing session thanks to Dr Sketchy's NYC with Persepone (Kita St Cyr). The event was done on YouTube. There were poses of varying lengths from 2 minutes to 20 minutes. Here are a few of the shorter poses that I sketched. Most were 2-5 minutes here. These shorter poses were pretaped.

These poses were a little longer and I think a few were live on YouTube. They ranged from 5-15 minutes.

This was a 20 minute pose and was done live.

We came back after intermission and were just starting another pose when YouTube took down the video. Apparently they thought it violated their rules. So this was my last sketch for the event.
My thanks to Kita St Cyr and Dr Sketchy NYC for all the work done to organize this online. It seems that we all knew the video had stopped, but she held the next pose for 20 minutes because she wasn't aware of what happened. Later in the day she did post a link to the part we saw with an additional 20 minutes of pretaped poses which was very nice of her.
