I knew I wanted to paint at Andrews Family Farm this season, but I was running out of day because I had a trip coming up. So I requested that my plein air group head there for a morning of sketching. Denise Andrews and the staff there are always so welcoming to us when we come to paint. The setups at the farm stand there always make me smile.

Wading River View
There is a road in Wading River that goes right along the Long Island Sound with homes tucked between the dunes. I'm not sure how often they flood, but it was nice when I was up there.

East End Farmland
Right now it is usually a good time to head out east to the North Fork of Long Island. This was near Wading River. A lot of the farms have cabbages, brussel sprouts, and other vegetables still growing in the fields. They add a lot of nice texture to the landscapes. There are great skies at this time of year too.

Pumpkins!
My plein air group painted at Andrews Family Farm in Wading River the other day. The rainbow of pumpkins captured my attention. My thanks to Denise Andrews and the staff for always being so welcoming.

Produce for Sale
This is a piece I did on location with my plein air group at Andrews Family Farm in Wading River. I completed most of it the first time we were there but I decided that the foreground needed something. We went back for a return visit and I added some of the flower bouquets that they had for sale as well as the hanging Indian corn.

WIP Fruits & Veggies
My plein air group visited Andrews Family Farm in Wading River this week. It is one of my favorite places to paint. The owners are so welcoming. The painting isn't finished yet, but I cropped this part and used it for the creativespark.art Scavenger Hunt...two of the items were fruit and veggies. Although I painted there for nearly 2 hours I need to do more work on this. I will post it when it is completed.

Wading River Beach Club
On the north shore of Long Island there are some beach communities right on the water like this one in Wading River which is along Long Island Sound. Of course the beach and parking are reserved for the homeowners and during the season it is nearly impossible for non-residents to park anywhere by the beach without paying a high price. But off-season it is possible to sneak into a parking lot and nobody seems to mind. I found a small lot across from the Wading River Beach Club and sat and sketched. This area seems to have some high dunes surrounding the houses. I couldn't tell if there were any rocks or cliffs going down to the water from where I was sitting.

Andrews Family Farm
My plein air group usually goes to Andrews Family Farm in Wading River every fall to sketch the pumpkins and the autumn displays. I love going there any time of year since the owners are so nice. I knew they had their Christmas trees and wreaths out so I took a ride over. Of course it looked great! It was cold so I sat in my car to paint this direct watercolor.

Inktober 2022 - Day 12 - Wildwood State Park
I am always looking for someplace new and different to sketch. I've never checked out Wildwood State Park in Wading River before. It is an interesting spot on the north shore. Here on the south shore we have sandy beaches, but the north shore has rocks, boulders and pebbles. I found it interesting enough that I also did a small watercolor of the area too.

Fink's Country Farm
I took a ride on Sunday even though it was raining. I ended up at Fink's Farm in Wading River. I jockeyed for a parking spot with a view because it was definitely raining too hard to be outside of my mobile studio. There were assorted veggies on display, a chicken sculpture on a barrel, and some masked people shopping under the covered stand.

Inktober - Day 22
My Inktober #22 sketch was done yesterday down along the water in Patchogue and I finished it just before it started to rain. We hardly had any rain the entire summer but that's how our road trip started today...rain from home until the middle of Pennsylvania. Right now we are in Roanoke, Va where it is much colder than I expected!!!

Panoramic View
Inktober was a fun challenge. Although I do some ink sketching it is usually done in conjunction with watercolor. I rarely do a sketch and leave it just in ink. I also challenged myself to do all the Inktober sketches directly in pen. I did the online workshop with Marc Taro Holmes and I credit that for making me take that leap and continue with it. He doesn't require that you sketch directly in ink, but suggests it. It is a scary thing to not have my pencil and eraser, but for sketches I've really gotten used to it. The lines may be a little wonky at times but I thinks the sketches that way have a certain freshness to them. Of course for the drawing for one of my watercolor paintings I will still use pencil. That needs a little more precision. This month has given me a lot of ink sketching practice, and I hope to get back to it from time to time.
Today I went out east near Wading River and did a painting from my car sitting at the end of the parking lot at Lewin Farms. I'm assuming the field I was overlooking belonged to them. As much as the temps were in the low 60s it was too windy to sit out and paint, especially along a busy road where traffic kicks up a lot of dirt. This is small...just 3 x 10. I should go back and do a larger version of this. I liked the idea of doing a panorama but I didn't have any larger paper. lol
