Veggie Still Life Sketches

 I did a few still life sketches using veggies. Most of these were done for hunt items for Creative Spark's Scavenger Hunts. The top and bottom one were done postcard size so I could use them in the postcard project.

Cabbages are not easy to paint. There are too many overlapping leaves and veins in the leaves.

This one was done as a continuous line sketch (see the bottom photo). I like the way some people have done pepper paintings so I went off to buy a few interesting peppers at the market. Sadly, most of the peppers were green and not all that distinctive, or else really tiny. So I bought a red onion for color and threw in some garlic too.

Peperoncino

I've been going through some of my photos and trying to organize them in some reasonable way...and get some of them off my computer. I came across this photo of peperoncino picante that I took at the Rialto Market in Venice, Italy. The little, spicy peppers looked like bouquets! Much of the produce sold at the Rialto Market (at least most of the good stuff) is grown on the island of San Erasmo which is in the Venetian lagoon. I visited the island on one of my trips and walked around to see what it was like. It is known as the agricultural island in the lagoon and is quiet and peaceful. When I would buy my vegetables and fruit while we were there I tried to make sure they came from S. Erasmo. 

Inktober - Day 3 - Andrews Farm

My plein air group was painting at Andrews Farm in Wading River today. In addition to my painting from there I made sure I got a sketch done for Inktober. I went inside the farm stand to sketch this basket of peppers. #inktober #inktober2017

On Sunday a small group of NYC Urban Sketchers and I went to Parkslope, Brooklyn. The rest of the NYC group went up to Connecticut, but we thought that was a little too far, and Brooklyn seemed to interest us more. This was where I did the first sketch for Inktober2017. Parkslope has many brownstones, that are a delight to paint. I sat directly across from this one and painted it. The owner did come out to see what I was doing and liked it. Too bad he didn't want to buy it. As you can see, Parkslope has cars parked in front of the buildings, so I had to make sure I sat with a view between two parked cars so I could paint this view.
