Inktober 2022 - Day 27 - Unicorn Scarecrow & Autumn Colors

One of the fun things about Bellport in October is that they decorate Main Street with all sorts of scarecrows for Halloween. Then the public votes on them. Somehow I haven't been in the town yet this year to see and sketch the scarecrows. Usually I sketch a few of them. So today since I was in the town anyway to go to the frame shop, I stopped to sketch the unicorn scarecrow for Inktober. This one is named Hairy Unicorn. I was going to take this photo of it in black and white and then add color (since she was so cute in pink) but it was so windy I couldn't sit there any longer.

When I finished I sat in my car looking out at autumn's colors and painted this.

Happy Halloween and Inktober Day 27

Happy Halloween

The NYC Urban Sketchers Zoom group met on Saturday to do Halloween related scenes. A website was provided with links to assorted Halloween references. I found one of an abandoned building and put it in a setting with a spooky sky with a big moon. Then I added a few bats to liven it up a bit. Since this was not done from life it isn't an urban sketch.

I hope your Halloween was fun!

Here is another Inktober sketch done with a twig and Chinese ink. For those of you who are wondering what kind of twig I'm using, it is just a regular twig that I've let dry out and then sharpened with a razor.  This was done from the dock in West Sayville.

I do have one special twig that was given to me by Kiah Kiean Chng when I took his workshop at the Urban Sketchers Symposium in Chicago. He provided a twig for each of us. He uses a soft twig from Malaysia. I posted a photo below of a few of my twigs. The one he provided is in the middle.

Inktober 2020 Day 26 - Halloween Display

It was drizzling the other day so I really wasn't inspired to go far to find a subject for my Day 26 Inktober sketch. I backed my car out of the garage and remembered that I had wanted to sketch the Halloween display on my neighbor's patio. So I sat in my mobile studio in the parking space right in front of their patio and sketched from there.

Just an update...remember the paintings I did on the shingles for the fundraiser that the Long Island Maritime Museum was having? Well, so far 43 pieces have sold including this one of mine. They art will continue to be on display at the Maritime Museum until the middle of November, so I am sure that more pieces will sell. Of course these were donated, so the artist isn't getting anything from the sale, but it is nice to know that my piece has a new home.

Inktober Day 16 - Olish Farm Display

I love that there are so many Halloween and fall displays everywhere. They are such fun. This was done on location at Olish Farm.

Inktober 2018 - Day 29 & Today's Tiles

Inktober is nearly over. Here is my Day 29 sketch done while sitting outside the Sensationally Sweet Gourmet Candy shop in Patchogue. It was too windy to sit outside...and I was too lazy to get out of my car. lol I did use my orange micron pen to give it a little Halloween color. I am hosting the Scavenger Hunt over on WetCanvas this week and one of the items I listed was "having to do with Halloween" so when I passed by this shop I pulled over and backed up to park in front of it. I didn't dare go in!

I've got to keep the alcohol ink tile momentum going. Here are two that I did today.

Inktober 2018 - Day 25

Last night my art group had a sketch night with a model. He was supposed to be dressed like a hippie for Halloween, but Seamus wasn't wearing anything different from what he usually wears when he's modeled in the past. One of the members was dressed sort of like a cat so I sketched her too as well as a few other members. I kept the sketches in ink so they would fit for my Day 25 sketch for Inktober.

Inktober 2018 - Day 22

With thoughts of autumn in my head I decided to find a local farmstand to sketch for my Day 22 of Inktober 2018. This was done from my car at The Pumpkin Patch, a tiny farm stand in Yaphank. They had a nice setup of autumn and Halloween related items outside the small building. It was worth the trip since I got to sketch and bought some local tomatoes and corn.

Inktober 2018 - Day 16

I headed into Sayville to sketch another one of the decorative scarecrows that are hanging all over the town. This one is called "Henny Penny" and was decorated by the staff from the Rooster Cafe. The scarecrow is hanging right in front of the restaurant and looks like it is dressed like a waiter from the restaurant. It was raining while I was sketching and this was in a perfect spot for sketching from the car.

#inktober, #inktober2015 - Day 26 & October Still Life

Today I had an appointment over in Nassau County, and I decided to go sketch in Bay Park in East Rockaway. It is near where I used to live. I haven't been over to the park since long before Hurricane Sandy and they are still doing a lot of repairs in that area. This was a view by the boat dock across the water.

The other evening my sketch group met at the Paper Cup Studio to work indoors. People brought all kinds of Halloween/October related items. This is what I sketched.

One More Bite

When I left my friend's house the other day I brought home a few yummy treats that she had left over from Halloween. I love Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and they make a great subject too.
This is 5 x 7.

Flower Shop in Northport

Last week my friend and I went to Northport to paint. I liked this corner florist all decked out
for Halloween.
This is 5 x 7.

Here is my painting with the shop behind it.
