Rhodies

Last Tuesday I was able to join my Plein air group for some painting at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum. Our destination was the rhododendron garden which was in beautiful display. It was a bit of a walk for me with my problem hip, but I persisted and was glad I did.

Mickey Mouse Ornament

Things have been busy so last night I had just enough time to sketch an ornament off my Christmas tree as my artwork for the day.

This weekend was my plein air group, PALS had our 10th Annual Art Show in Sayville. We had a really good turnout both days. Here are a few photos of the gallery, paintings, and gift items. I think all the artists involved sold merchandise and this was probably the best show we've had for sales. It is a great group and most of the artists have been part of the group since we started 10 years ago.

I sold three paintings, some alcohol ink tiles, ornaments, and cards. Here are the paintings that have new loving homes.

"Side Garden" purchased by the actual owner of the house. He remembered the day I painted it and grabbed it as soon as he saw it.

"Smooth Ride" painted on location in Venice in April.

"Rocky Coast" painted on location in Maine.

Paintings for PALS Show

I spent the last few days finishing up and adding details to the paintings I will be hanging in the PALS (Plein Air Limner Society) in December. I had to hand in the titles so I needed to finish them to decide which ones I would hang and which ones I would just mat. I know two of these were posted when I did them, but I have worked on them quite a bit. Anyway, here are the three I decided to submit. Strange that this year I'm not putting in any landscapes.

"On the Wall" 8 x 10 watercolor

"Potted" 8 x 10 watercolor

"Sunflower Show" 8 x 10 watercolor

Garden Shed

My plein air group, PALS, was invited to a private garden in West Sayville to sketch this week. I loved all the roses around this garden shed so I made that my focus.

Inktober 2018 - Day 30 - At the Suffolk County Farm

This morning I was at the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank with my PALS Plein Air group. It was very windy and cold. I wasn't sure if it would be warm enough to paint/sketch, but I lucked out and found a building that blocked the wind for me. I'm going to post the painting first since I did that first.

When I finished the painting I went to see if any of the other artists were still around. A few had left due to the cold but a few were still around and we chatted for a bit while Jeanne worked on her painting. When everyone left I found a spot to sit where the wind wasn't too bad and did my Day 30 sketch for Inktober. Just one more day!

PALS Exhibit and Sale

This past weekend, the PALS Plein Air Limner Society had our 8th annual show in Sayville. On the walls were paintings from all of our locations this year...some done en plein air and some in the studio. It is always a fun show and in addition to the paintings we bring matted pieces and any other art related items we want to sell. I brought some of my alcohol ink tiles, some alcohol ink ornaments, matted pieces, books, and greeting cards.

For some reason I hadn't taken any photos of the ornaments and by the time I thought of it there were only a few left. They sold really well.

Here is the showcase that contained the ornaments and some of my tiles in addition to work by other artists.

Here are the paintings that were hung in the show.

The bottom left painting was mine and is part of the PALS on the Road display. I painted it in Maine.

The center painting with the orange umbrella is mine.

I painted the dahlia on the bottom left.

The sunflower field on the bottom left is one of my paintings.

Each year we have a "People's Choice" award. This year Donna Howard won for her painting of the dahlia garden below.

I think the show gets better each year.

Tree Shopping and PALS Show Photos

I've been on a search for places selling Christmas trees to so some sketching.
I found this one along Route 25 in Ridge.

This weekend was our 5th Annual PALS Plein Air Show and Sale at the BAFFA Gallery of the Gillette House in Sayville. From April to the beginning of December we painted at 26 different locations on Long Island. The camaraderie between the artists is special and we all look forward to painting together, but seeing all the finished paintings together is just amazing. Here are some photos from the show.

The top left and bottom right paintings are mine.

The top painting of the field is mine.

The red dahlia painting on the bottom is mine too.

Here I am with one of my paintings.

And here are most of the artists.

We sold several paintings off the wall, many matted paintings, cards, books, etc.
It was a really successful show!
My thanks to Jeanne Salucci who has organized this group, selects our locations, and works so hard to make this show happen!!!
