For my day 2 painting for the 30 day challenge I found a scene out east in Riverhead. I was attracted to the color of the yellowish-green building with the rusty roof. This was done on Strathmore Toned Gray Sketch Paper. I am surprised that it doesn't buckle much when water is added. I like it for the grey tones in the sky on overcast days. Although the reds are more vibrant on the computer image, I think I may go in and tone down the small red building. It seems to be competing with the larger building.
A super piece Joan. I agree that the red building is competing but not too much. I have been teaching my drawing class how to do buildings and they are struggling. You make it seem so easy!
ReplyDeleteVal, buildings are hard. I think I like the wonky ones like this one because I don't have to be so careful about the perspective. lol
DeleteOh boy your really nailed this piece and caught the essence of it. I too like working on the grayed paper and the mid tone it provides. This is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nelvia. I like using the toned paper and it takes the gouache well. In the past I did snow scenes using white colored pencil, but that took so much pressure it bothered my hands. This is much easier.
DeleteYour painting is really appealing, Joan, and I agree with your decision to tone down the red building... but it sure makes the truck color sing!
