Inktober 2022 - Day 31 - Lakeview Cemetery

 HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Today is the final day of Inktober 2022. I went to do my Inktober sketch at the Lakeview Cemetery in Patchogue. It is an old, historic cemetery where I've sketched a few times. I walked over to the area that looked like it had some old headstones. I know a clean-up campaign has been going on there so some of the older headstones seem a lot cleaner than I remember them to be. I started out just sketching in my grey toned Strathmore sketchbook using Noodler's Lexington Grey ink with my Lamy pen. I used some white colored pencil to lighten the headstones in some areas. The scene still needed more to differentiate the items in the scene, so I pulled out my gouache since I know that should cover better than watercolors. That helped and I am pretty happy with the result.

Medieval Sketches

Now that it is getting dark by 6 PM the Patchogue Sketch Club isn't going outdoors to sketch. This week we did a Zoom meeting where we sketched portions of Medieval tapestries. We had about 20 minutes to work on each piece which wasn't really enough time to do the whole thing. I concentrated on a section that appealed to me.

This one was done in my Strathmore gray toned sketchbook.

30 Day Challenge - Day 2 - After the Snow

For my day 2 painting for the 30 day challenge I found a scene out east in Riverhead. I was attracted to the color of the yellowish-green building with the rusty roof. This was done on Strathmore Toned Gray Sketch Paper. I am surprised that it doesn't buckle much when water is added. I like it for the grey tones in the sky on overcast days. Although the reds are more vibrant on the computer image, I think I may go in and tone down the small red building. It seems to be competing with the larger building.

Missed a Day!

Can you believe it, I missed a day of posting! Yes...it is true. Yesterday was an extremely busy day. I had to drive up to Middletown, NY to pick up my paintings and those of 3 other artists from the NorthEast Watercolor Society Members Show. Middletown is a good 2 1/2 hrs from me, so Jerry and I left around 9, got up there about 11:40, and then drove to Queens so we could take the subway to Manhattan. We went to dinner and had tickets to see Bette Middler in "Hello Dolly" which was fabulous. We didn't get home until 1:00 am this morning. I went straight to bed and didn't even think about posting...hope you don't mind.

Heres is another snow sketch that I did in my Strathmore Toned Gray sketchbook. This was done in Sayville.

Last week was my hubby's birthday so here are two things that were part of his birthday dinner...blueberry pie...

and his new favorite beer, Stella Artois.

Tree in Snow

The snow from our last storm lasted for a bit, so I headed out to sketch what was left of it. This was done in a Strathmore Gray Toned sketchbook using watercolors, ink, watercolor pencils, and a white colored pencil.

Sketching on Toned Paper

A few weeks ago I went to Dick Blick with friends and while roaming around and talking with my friend who has been using this paper I bought a sketchbook. It is Strathmore Toned Gray sketch paper. That was followed by another of our snowstorms and I was trapped indoors for a while, so I gave it a try for a snowscape. This is the view from every window in my apartment. All our windows face a bit of woods, a fence and then the houses on the next street. I would prefer a little variety, but I go with what is there. Since I knew this paper wouldn't handle paint I just used ink, dry watercolor pencils, and a white colored pencil. I like the effect and should do more of these.
