One Week 100 People - Day 4

My plan was to go to the Motor Vehicle Department this morning to sketch. When I got there I found out they no longer let you just show up at the office...you need an appointment! Now what??? In the same strip mall there was a TJ Max, so I headed in there to sketch shoppers. Some of them were cooperative and stood in the same general area looking through the racks. I had to stand to sketch which I don't really like doing. But I got some sketching done...and lost the cap on one of my pens. Here are some of the shoppers.

It was a very sunny day and I thought there would be some people down by the water in Sayville. There weren't as many people there as I expected. I think the wind kept them away. But I did get a few sketches done, even one of the man sitting in the car next to me. He was there for a while...had his lunch and then put his seat back and took a nap. lol

I finished the day completing sketch #66.

Sayville Dock

Along the Sayville Dock there are always some interesting boats and buildings. It is a fun area to sketch and I return there a lot.

By the Water

You know I get down by the water as often as I can. Today I went to Hecksher State Park. The clouds above the beach grasses and the trees were so interesting.

The other day I was down by the bay in Sayville. The parking lot had a lot of cars and gulls. They are always fun to sketch.

Sometimes the gulls even stay still for a little while...but don't count on it. lol

Inktober Day 10 - Boat Repairs

Down near the Sayville Dock there are a few places that repair and recondition boats...and some of them are large boats like this one which is a charter fishing boat. This was done from my mobile studio for my Inktober 2020 Day 10 sketch.

The Susan

This boat, The Susan, has been docked down at the Sayville dock on and off for quite a while.
It is always a fun boat to sketch.

Sayville Dock

There is always some kind of activity going on down by the Sayville dock with the boars, repairs, fishermen, birds, and assorted marine materials. That's why I go down there to sketch so often. This was done in my Stillman & Birn Beta Sketchbook and is about 5 x 7.

Frozen Bay

Most of the area around the edge of the bays here has been frozen for a few weeks. When the tide comes in and out it breaks up the ice into large and small chunks...think a bay sized slurp. lol
The ice clanging together makes a lot of noise and when it cracks it makes noise too. When I was down by the Sayville dock the other day, the wind was really blowing and there were whitecaps on the bay which kept hitting the frozen chunks. It was wild! I was sitting in my car on the dock looking back toward the shore. This was done in my Stillman & Birn (new) Beta Bound Sketchbook and is about 5 x 7.

Sunset at the Dock

On Wednesday the Patchogue Sketch Club met down at the Sayville Dock. There weren't too many clouds so we didn't have a dramatic sunset...just a touch of color.

Boat Builders

We have been having showers on and off for the last few days. Yesterday I decided I was going out to paint even if I had to do it from my car...and I did. I had the windows wide open until it changed from misty showers to actual rain for a while. The good part was that nobody was blocking my view on the dock in Sayville near the Maritime Museum. This was done in my Stillman and Birn journal and is about 4 x 7.

The Dock in Sayville

Yesterday I headed over to the water in Sayville where I often paint. Much of the debris and sand have already been cleared away, and on the few streets I drove through the buildings were still standing. Who knows what they are like on the inside though. While I was there I sketched a dock from the parking lot of a spot appropriately named "Land's End."

Sayville Dock

I love going down to the Sayville dock because there is usually some huge boat out of the water and being worked on. There is always a lot of atmosphere. This was done in my Stillman & Birn journal.

Sayville Dock

This was painted last week on a rather overcast day down by the Fire Island Ferries. This is 4 x 6 and done in watercolors and ink.
