Carnival View

Over Memorial Day weekend there was a carnival over in the parking lot at the South Shore Mall in Bay Shore. It wasn't a very nice day so there weren't too many people around when I stopped at the carnival early in the day. I ended up parking my "mobile studio" outside the fencing and just drawing what I saw in front of me. I sketched rides, games, amusements and all kinds of fun things.

Dean's Seafood

Places like Dean's Seafood in Bay Shore are fun to sketch. I love quirky buildings and all the stuff around to include...or leave out.

Bay Shore Buildings

In Bay Shore the other day I came across a view looking toward the canal. I liked how the buildings were tucked behind each other.

Bay Shore House

I love houses with character so when I saw this one in Bay Shore I stopped to sketch it.

Snow Update and Napper Tandy's

The forecast was correct, although the snow didn't really get heavy until about 6 pm and then it was coming down at the rate of an inch or two an hour for a while. By morning it was gorgeous with heavy clusters of snow on everything. I went out with my yardstick and measured by my front patio where it was over 13 inches. There was more on the side of the building where my garage is located..maybe 15 inches.

Here is a photo I took last night when it was really snowing heavily.
A view of the snowstorm from my front door.

These photos were taken this morning.

My pots of chives waiting for spring to arrive.

The parking lot in our complex.

The cars parked in front of the two garages next to mine. They use their garages for storage. I use mine for my car.

Luckily the temperature hit 50 degrees today with a lot of sunshine, so a great deal of the snow is melted already. I went out early to paint a snow scene before the snow fell off all the trees. I'll post that in a few days.

Meanwhile last Friday I was in Bay Shore along Main Street and Napper Tandy's with it's rich, red front just screamed to be sketched. I'm sure on Saturday it was a whole lot more active for St. Patrick's Day.

Bay Shore Deli

I was down by the ferries in Bay Shore one day and found this deli near the dock. I loved the colors and the building. I was attracted to this location after seeing a post by Shari Blaukauf about how she likes painting buildings on corners, so you can see two sides of the building. This deli serves Mexican food, so I'll have to go in the next time I'm down there.

Lights in Bay Shore

I was riding around Bay Shore the other day and noticed this guy on a ladder. He was stringing lights on the town Christmas tree. The guy with the long stick had the lights attached to it and he kept walking them around the tree. It looks like a handy gadget. I had to find a spot to park and sketch this. I think some of the towns have been taking advantage of the mild temperatures for this time of year and getting the holiday decorations done early. I like Christmas, but we seem to start getting ready for it earlier each year.

Downtown Bay Shore

I find that even the backs of buildings make interesting subjects to sketch. I found a parking spot in one of the lots in downtown Bay Shore and sketched this collection of buildings along with the snowy street.

Lake View

Two weekends ago I planned on going to see a friend at a street art show in Babylon, but I never found the show location. lol I didn't want to waste the day so I rode around until I found something interesting to sketch. I'm not sure if I was in Islip or Bay Shore but I caught sight of this lake. Of course here on Long Island you usually find a view and then all you see are "no parking" signs. There were signs around the lake itself but not on the side roads so I was able to park.
