The Delica-Sea

I love when people are clever with names, like this deli near the water in Babylon called The Delica-Sea. (a take on delicacy) lol I had headed down to the water in Babylon to sketch a restaurant I've been to there, but it wasn't open and held no interest without their normal colorful tables and umbrellas outside. Instead I wandered around a bit and found this deli which also wasn't open, but it looked interesting enough to pull out my materials.

Inktober 2020 Day 20 - Tres Palms

Recently I met two friends for a socially distant outdoor lunch at Tres Palms in Babylon. Tres Palms is right off the Great South Bay, and they have a mooring for boats to dock that was like a small canal.  I hadn't been there before but decided it would be a good place to come back to and sketch. So I returned!  There is a parking lot just across the little canal so I sat there in my mobile studio to sketch my Inktober Day 20 piece.

Babylon's Main Street

A few weeks ago several artist friends decided to go to Babylon and sketch along Maine Street. I was a bit late so by the time I got there one of them was leaving and the other had a problem with her watercolor because it had started drizzling. It had totally ruined her sky, so she gave up and left too. After going all the way there I decided to at least sketch the scene, so I stood mostly under an overhang and sketched the view. By that time the weather had improved and it was no longer spritzing. I worked on it for about 1 1/2 hrs and it really needed a lot more. I ended up leaving with it unfinished. Last week (when it was raining again and I was indoors) I decided to work more on it. Now I consider it finished

Babylon Crossing

I did a second sketch while I was in Babylon. There was so much going on here, and I love scenes with details that keep going back into the background.

Alicia is keeping busy over on my "fake" blog...come and look.

Lake View

Two weekends ago I planned on going to see a friend at a street art show in Babylon, but I never found the show location. lol I didn't want to waste the day so I rode around until I found something interesting to sketch. I'm not sure if I was in Islip or Bay Shore but I caught sight of this lake. Of course here on Long Island you usually find a view and then all you see are "no parking" signs. There were signs around the lake itself but not on the side roads so I was able to park.
