First I joined my friend, Suzala at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum. Two of the firemen working there snuck into my sketch. (They loved that!) Then I still needed 2 more people so we went to 99 Ranch Market, an Asian grocery store that has a food court. I ended up doing a total of 102 sketches!</p><p style="text-align: center;"> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzt1AomXrpRsQNvfEJEw9YIK5a_475J526XWbP_oZpbBTYYeNIKrohAcVlECqf4gKalLg8Dfh0vljSzN34uxvp2nEL9rFnjLMy_QecomYF5syHpPADMUvdxxYVg3uJBr6ORYlauXtUWlptifITJtqDLKV0iMBEuQlsJheuFQPP3sNLtpLWoF8Lm-ouzdo/s3982/IMG_4838.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2766" data-original-width="3982" height="444" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzt1AomXrpRsQNvfEJEw9YIK5a_475J526XWbP_oZpbBTYYeNIKrohAcVlECqf4gKalLg8Dfh0vljSzN34uxvp2nEL9rFnjLMy_QecomYF5syHpPADMUvdxxYVg3uJBr6ORYlauXtUWlptifITJtqDLKV0iMBEuQlsJheuFQPP3sNLtpLWoF8Lm-ouzdo/w640-h444/IMG_4838.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBziE8QSRjISIgk7rZUP61yG32OsHAojwliGUaVttJrPw-hLz63vLneyKQOY8hkNeZjTG_9i9JDNjDeDTbYPT-twV9khjQBjkqAZ3rHTpm1XERhPX1p0x3rDCUASFlkHjaCtXCR-HFdlDfUmRUw6cQ9e2xzrPU6H3ecTNbAi0k6FLZlKof3S9QmADNcaY/s3261/IMG_4836.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2270" data-original-width="3261" height="446" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBziE8QSRjISIgk7rZUP61yG32OsHAojwliGUaVttJrPw-hLz63vLneyKQOY8hkNeZjTG_9i9JDNjDeDTbYPT-twV9khjQBjkqAZ3rHTpm1XERhPX1p0x3rDCUASFlkHjaCtXCR-HFdlDfUmRUw6cQ9e2xzrPU6H3ecTNbAi0k6FLZlKof3S9QmADNcaY/w640-h446/IMG_4836.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p></p>Joan Tavolotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11290923567339587417noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2752084389339915950.post-46772409160258528232024-03-17T16:33:00.000-07:002024-03-18T16:35:38.108-07:00One Week 100 People - Day 6 Part 2<p style="text-align: center;"> Somehow I missed posting yesterday. I swear I typed up something and wished everyone a </p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: large;">Happy St Patrick's Day</span>, but it isn't here.</p><p style="text-align: center;">This is the post that I should have posted yesterday. I had sketched at the Sayville Bean Coffee House. There were a lot of people who came and went that I inserted into the sketch. When I finished this sketch I thought I had reached 100 people, only to realize I had miscounted and was off by a few people.</p><p style="text-align: center;">This sketch has a funny story. The guy who was sitting at the table in front of me (green Bean sweatshirt) came over to me later and asked if I had sketched there before. It turns out he is a co-owner of the coffee shop. Anyway, he said his aunt that lives in South Carolina texted him my last sketch of the coffee shop after she saw it posted on Facebook. I don't know the woman or how she saw it, but she recognized that the sketch was his place. He had it in the photos on his phone. He told me I was welcome to come and sketch any time.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe9Dgg7Z1avwyphst1jHQizazplwr3ai6tc88wVtDkkC8L-LGX1ceMDO1Ksm100YircmvJ9eQT_1g5s_f_mn880-weZbrsKysVHm1vsSpWAsezOnNOh5FIohQaw_7EYukLonPNcjI-cSqL3ULPEyVCmqdDL2NY-IfBD-QRzx24UlJevkQU8IOD5_H-bAE/s3369/IMG_4833.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2595" data-original-width="3369" height="492" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe9Dgg7Z1avwyphst1jHQizazplwr3ai6tc88wVtDkkC8L-LGX1ceMDO1Ksm100YircmvJ9eQT_1g5s_f_mn880-weZbrsKysVHm1vsSpWAsezOnNOh5FIohQaw_7EYukLonPNcjI-cSqL3ULPEyVCmqdDL2NY-IfBD-QRzx24UlJevkQU8IOD5_H-bAE/w640-h492/IMG_4833.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Joan Tavolotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11290923567339587417noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2752084389339915950.post-80820945485826958142024-03-16T17:00:00.000-07:002024-03-16T17:00:50.277-07:00One Week 100 People - Day 6<p style="text-align: center;"> Somehow I miscounted and thought I was finished...but I wasn't. Here are people #85-96 done at the Sayville Bean Coffee House, and a few people sketched at Underworld Productions, a location that has areas set up to resemble sets from the past. There was an area set up like an old-fashioned bathroom, living room, den, bedroom, as well as the soda shop and the beauty salon. Two models were available for the Patchogue Sketch Club and the Patchogue Photography Club.</p><p style="text-align: center;">Adonna posed in the beauty salon. When I got there I found out they no longer let you just show up at the office...you need an appointment! Now what??? In the same strip mall there was a TJ Max, so I headed in there to sketch shoppers. Some of them were cooperative and stood in the same general area looking through the racks. I had to stand to sketch which I don't really like doing. But I got some sketching done...and lost the cap on one of my pens. Here are some of the shoppers.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCcuRnTUhSZNw1ifMQugcnXiKUaWc1IHXBBg3YSZQQ0QMvlNDSbwREqJY6Eqw4mDJ7P7i6b4yQl1xxRunBcb_eObbtp3wOSg_c2v_S__KR8Fg5OtZcCoukzxxWaLVA3TS-PVzXvKhkuMZIYsyA9RgMeYnkzL0Yihi6bdnfkO0FFHPAANePDtLEOryiPAk/s2983/IMG_4795.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2983" data-original-width="1984" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCcuRnTUhSZNw1ifMQugcnXiKUaWc1IHXBBg3YSZQQ0QMvlNDSbwREqJY6Eqw4mDJ7P7i6b4yQl1xxRunBcb_eObbtp3wOSg_c2v_S__KR8Fg5OtZcCoukzxxWaLVA3TS-PVzXvKhkuMZIYsyA9RgMeYnkzL0Yihi6bdnfkO0FFHPAANePDtLEOryiPAk/w426-h640/IMG_4795.jpeg" width="426" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD-epZ17WFfl9tUUKZzwZzb_R1YS-_wqvdevHGy0PUoFFQTTunW9DnkZJ_KaPDv-_sV-fqMSA1VS8x1JtB3myia4DPvkV47Qi2iHhgYC7_8p_muwO4HP3kBRhIK_m8VLoRo5AgkmLQBif4rrCjDvVSN_tkqoYjNA4z9zylmVufnO0Xqs7MQtkyY8YNAJ0/s3145/IMG_4796.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3145" data-original-width="2187" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD-epZ17WFfl9tUUKZzwZzb_R1YS-_wqvdevHGy0PUoFFQTTunW9DnkZJ_KaPDv-_sV-fqMSA1VS8x1JtB3myia4DPvkV47Qi2iHhgYC7_8p_muwO4HP3kBRhIK_m8VLoRo5AgkmLQBif4rrCjDvVSN_tkqoYjNA4z9zylmVufnO0Xqs7MQtkyY8YNAJ0/w446-h640/IMG_4796.jpeg" width="446" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It was a very sunny day and I thought there would be some people down by the water in Sayville. He was thrilled to be in the collection.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge4dB2xztpwb4qh6m4N8uDxC4zXQtYMEqWbExRiCcTyTZDB2K6DDnj7HLLWxv7956SOQHM5M-uf1tf8J2bQ3mBcp6hFtOZVWDKiK_kgBm4LepQL8tFflXw3Wb7-lwoMnNU7Pk4C82CfZ77nLsy9_TWoTfEkn-zIMd-LlB6ie0GHkHwu5zk4d8zvtEMPrE/s3665/IMG_4802.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3665" data-original-width="2674" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge4dB2xztpwb4qh6m4N8uDxC4zXQtYMEqWbExRiCcTyTZDB2K6DDnj7HLLWxv7956SOQHM5M-uf1tf8J2bQ3mBcp6hFtOZVWDKiK_kgBm4LepQL8tFflXw3Wb7-lwoMnNU7Pk4C82CfZ77nLsy9_TWoTfEkn-zIMd-LlB6ie0GHkHwu5zk4d8zvtEMPrE/w466-h640/IMG_4802.jpeg" width="466" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I wanted to get a little more sketching done so I went to a local supermarket. I headed to a local Panera Bread in Bohemia for my sketching. I like that one rather than one that is closer to me because of the setup. They have tables in the front that face the counter where people order as well as the tablets that they can order on. But I didn't sit there at first. I sat at a table that faced some of the occupied booths as well as a table with three women playing what I think was mahjong. That gave me a few options for my sketches.<p></p><p style="text-align: center;">#oneweek100people #oneweek100people2024</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizdNztSIWvd3jIxY_SDh-0aEDD1A-Qs6oW5VfzIxVSKE1A72wSL5ac6VqApbNA3b7tZcBe3N1dZ8qkem82jQklBHnRFU9_iKofbxXVmZKTCLatbXuR7HqRcfokyOCDrGBPy3EuSRocuvKL9gTpTDW4aBnUFjO3m0jr1IbvFEExj0Rx_lQ-3KYRQ2LebPA/s3205/IMG_4786.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2192" data-original-width="3205" height="438" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizdNztSIWvd3jIxY_SDh-0aEDD1A-Qs6oW5VfzIxVSKE1A72wSL5ac6VqApbNA3b7tZcBe3N1dZ8qkem82jQklBHnRFU9_iKofbxXVmZKTCLatbXuR7HqRcfokyOCDrGBPy3EuSRocuvKL9gTpTDW4aBnUFjO3m0jr1IbvFEExj0Rx_lQ-3KYRQ2LebPA/w640-h438/IMG_4786.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">When I had sketched that view I moved to the front and sketched some of the people placing their orders. I usually have a hard time finding places with a lot of people so I decided to start a little early. The start date is actually today, March 11th, but this weekend several of the towns near me held their St Patrick's Day parades this weekend so as not to compete with the big one in NYC. They also try to space the parades over a few weekends here on Long Island because a lot of the firemen and police officers march with other local towns too. But I couldn't pass up finding a crowd of people.</p><p style="text-align: center;">I headed over to Westhampton for the parade. Just getting into the area to park was difficult. Most of the streets I know that lead to the center of town were closed off. Luckily a very nice young lady who was part of the Westhampton police force gave me a suggestion for where I could park. Of course Main Street was crowded with people waiting for the parade to reach our end. That gave me time to sketch some of the crowd. I used a Micron pen, a brush pen, a water brush, and a green watercolor pencil on site. Any other color was done later. I knew I had to sketch quickly because it was cold and windy. </p><p style="text-align: center;">These people were right in front of me, but I was also able to see across to the other side of the street. I was able to use my stool to sketch this one.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidlCv1YjKz3Zb_WSjZ8V2NTji76O0Hyz8Ypp5oBrwweQb61Ca6ZKrkbNTlKGXaRH7TkFSvqQwlg5yu2FZYH32xXaLWgAZqLg5DUzW01UYIHagzZnKiDsQr1XDya9_bO6XFeOJfrPS0IAvYd4bYi0Ft8Y8f4EkmiEE15ZoAidMtNvBZ2lCFCO0SwZEbq28/s2271/IMG_4775.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2271" data-original-width="1833" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidlCv1YjKz3Zb_WSjZ8V2NTji76O0Hyz8Ypp5oBrwweQb61Ca6ZKrkbNTlKGXaRH7TkFSvqQwlg5yu2FZYH32xXaLWgAZqLg5DUzW01UYIHagzZnKiDsQr1XDya9_bO6XFeOJfrPS0IAvYd4bYi0Ft8Y8f4EkmiEE15ZoAidMtNvBZ2lCFCO0SwZEbq28/w516-h640/IMG_4775.jpeg" width="516" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This was one of my favorite characters...all decked out in his shamrock suit. lol</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Ez-uiMaGLA33CIjTzC3dioA0KO4n-sbVcYq9D4FbjqoxoSfWWien5SFz2EShaRuWpMoxG5V51DHrR04PYafOFPM0D5C0NtdIAvWaQi0ITP4hQVPv4P6j0BLI1sYua8aYl0ui1xITN220eteEHXONKE6SsHfKx4RQ3pY_uAG3SbhropVN82P0iS3yE9I/s4032/IMG_4773.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="2751" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Ez-uiMaGLA33CIjTzC3dioA0KO4n-sbVcYq9D4FbjqoxoSfWWien5SFz2EShaRuWpMoxG5V51DHrR04PYafOFPM0D5C0NtdIAvWaQi0ITP4hQVPv4P6j0BLI1sYua8aYl0ui1xITN220eteEHXONKE6SsHfKx4RQ3pY_uAG3SbhropVN82P0iS3yE9I/w436-h640/IMG_4773.jpeg" width="436" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As always, you can hear the bagpipe players before they arrive. I decided to gather a few things for the current Creative Spark Scavenger Hunt. My friend, Susan and I took a ride up to Short Beach in Smithtown. It was actually warm enough to sit outside without a coat and paint! Apparently in May there will be an exhibit (Historic Bellport Visited at the Brewport Coffee House) of our sketches depicting things from the past in the area. I found this great secretary's desk with assorted objects that was fun to capture in ink and watercolor. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUqV8wE-rAdOvHSownfnQ5qXw3IDVFnRbZBMi_PFJ_izdfVowvxt2EyyDz5bvtpR7FEmc9TTe-3ey9NHtkWGxMoqgYSCg9-nA-hcziAdWNO3aKqRruBDSfVepbUvFnyi5Ee1e7XFBTjHrqHayegcBa1O4Os0Za7QUhdIkt5lc9QIFM0UfQYcHgcj4kbl4/s2690/IMG_4715.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2690" data-original-width="2119" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUqV8wE-rAdOvHSownfnQ5qXw3IDVFnRbZBMi_PFJ_izdfVowvxt2EyyDz5bvtpR7FEmc9TTe-3ey9NHtkWGxMoqgYSCg9-nA-hcziAdWNO3aKqRruBDSfVepbUvFnyi5Ee1e7XFBTjHrqHayegcBa1O4Os0Za7QUhdIkt5lc9QIFM0UfQYcHgcj4kbl4/w504-h640/IMG_4715.jpeg" width="504" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Joan Tavolotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11290923567339587417noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2752084389339915950.post-6860651298237738982024-03-05T13:24:00.000-08:002024-03-05T13:24:53.854-08:00Port Jeff Parking Lot View<p style="text-align: center;">It is fun to sketch in Port Jeff...if you can find parking. lol I like sketching the buildings that are on the hill. Right now they are actually closed so all the boats are beached and many are shrink-wrapped. The rowboats are just overturned...not covered. The docks are pulled in too. Even with all that I can always find something to sketch there. I wonder who Lily is and if she is actually silly...</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNdHRx4FH78KUb1kh0gqrGGFC9djCYGkxjTo7hOz6oLL3bWIzRpIsLGYl2pLOWHzp951R44r65xuX9DBE-Xiuawhl3p5n0jWD5oaGRoiCJLKzkuo0NlIGiO5XHfemmjzYwCt24hXAPquULNuzA95iv9RULX6s8HQ9RkDZo2Cw-_vCMIHgPCE5dulf0baA/s2756/IMG_4706.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1751" data-original-width="2756" height="406" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNdHRx4FH78KUb1kh0gqrGGFC9djCYGkxjTo7hOz6oLL3bWIzRpIsLGYl2pLOWHzp951R44r65xuX9DBE-Xiuawhl3p5n0jWD5oaGRoiCJLKzkuo0NlIGiO5XHfemmjzYwCt24hXAPquULNuzA95iv9RULX6s8HQ9RkDZo2Cw-_vCMIHgPCE5dulf0baA/w640-h406/IMG_4706.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Joan Tavolotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11290923567339587417noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2752084389339915950.post-20550372517013865242024-03-03T13:41:00.000-08:002024-03-03T13:41:51.482-08:00Live Model<p style="text-align: center;"> On Wednesday evening the Patchogue Sketch Club had a live model. It was a fairly nice day, but not quite warm enough to sit outside and sketch. I headed over to Funchos, a Mexican restaurant that has a big outdoor seating area and a part of the restaurant that can be covered up in colder weather. I parked so I had a view of some of the fun signs that were outside. I'll have to go back and sketch it again when the outside seating area is open. They decorate it even more and sometimes have live music. I did go inside and have a delicious burrito for lunch.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxozRLeo1S5Wmax5OdcDokBDv8pqN_Ax-U6_zFP8Ew_mpGQN4ywUufJz5O1n5pr95_DkZb6gS72BIgrcheqIbXUH5g9XE6t2e85LNWAA_SfVY68XyVbi4xfHrQ3TiHB9T3yX17xeyaqwQMRJ9-AH3Rq1wSq-qD5MamjmQddXM3gMv_zUYinA_aORB_z6M/s3074/IMG_4688.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2269" data-original-width="3074" height="472" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxozRLeo1S5Wmax5OdcDokBDv8pqN_Ax-U6_zFP8Ew_mpGQN4ywUufJz5O1n5pr95_DkZb6gS72BIgrcheqIbXUH5g9XE6t2e85LNWAA_SfVY68XyVbi4xfHrQ3TiHB9T3yX17xeyaqwQMRJ9-AH3Rq1wSq-qD5MamjmQddXM3gMv_zUYinA_aORB_z6M/w640-h472/IMG_4688.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is a closeup of one of the signs.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihzaubS9o3xWbUmPO5ICENQcXRJCRY2nc6vq2wbGzW_5wLPp94XqUCyKDSJe9F6vx97WjtjSbuRPh-aq4OiGg2q7mVpFNeOy2MDjcsUi7FtazNDtoIz48fs_Z2RcTrK5I2ITIW-Uio0cD8fOwlf4OnhvDemzRc6n16HFGmi5zsnDwAHK78x7SyQYPcMac/s4032/IMG_4690.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihzaubS9o3xWbUmPO5ICENQcXRJCRY2nc6vq2wbGzW_5wLPp94XqUCyKDSJe9F6vx97WjtjSbuRPh-aq4OiGg2q7mVpFNeOy2MDjcsUi7FtazNDtoIz48fs_Z2RcTrK5I2ITIW-Uio0cD8fOwlf4OnhvDemzRc6n16HFGmi5zsnDwAHK78x7SyQYPcMac/w480-h640/IMG_4690.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Joan Tavolotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11290923567339587417noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2752084389339915950.post-45266708708061917242024-02-29T14:37:00.000-08:002024-02-29T14:37:47.026-08:00The Forum @ Colunbia University - Part 2<p style="text-align: center;"> Sunday's location at "The Forum" at Columbia University provided a lot of great views to sketch and paint. After tackling the view from under the #1 elevated train I decided to do something that wasn't so complex. One of the iconic things you see in the NY City skyline are water towers atop many of the buildings. Not all of the buildings have them, and I definitely don't understand how they work, but they are fun to see. From the same spot where I was sitting for the first sketch, I turned my chair less than 90 degrees to face some buildings and a water tower happened to be on top of one of them. Of course a city scene often has a bit of graffiiti too. This was my view directly across 125 Street in the Morningside Heights section of Manhattan where Columbia University is located.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOZIiu5TTw6NNrn8-1e5bsjM2f6VHRJdnjcGkY86D-FBNTaAVteo-NK1Btsv4e0RTnB8D8jgABlggc5YlXCBpu-ZgwNDGWIF8qD2mbjcJxJ1q1IniT4mxsNPpexoMVQRV5viBGbEQeEa6Uvvo9tw0eF6G2YHMugpyBg0AM2lq8KbvLi0LQvRV3YTfsb7k/s3004/IMG_4685.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3004" data-original-width="2459" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOZIiu5TTw6NNrn8-1e5bsjM2f6VHRJdnjcGkY86D-FBNTaAVteo-NK1Btsv4e0RTnB8D8jgABlggc5YlXCBpu-ZgwNDGWIF8qD2mbjcJxJ1q1IniT4mxsNPpexoMVQRV5viBGbEQeEa6Uvvo9tw0eF6G2YHMugpyBg0AM2lq8KbvLi0LQvRV3YTfsb7k/w524-h640/IMG_4685.jpeg" width="524" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">"Show and Tell" for the NYC Urban Sketchers usually takes place at 3:00pm. The Forum personnel told us we could relocate to another room so that we could gather and share our work without having to worry about disturbing other people that were there. I had about 40 minutes to sketch something else and headed over to the other side of the room where I had been figuring I would sketch some people inside with the outside view behind them. I saw my friend Laura had a table and sat down to sketch there. Of course we did a lot of talking instead of a lot of sketching because we hadn't seen each other in a while. I did manage to do a very quick (maybe 10-15 minute) sketch that included two of our sketchers as well as someone working on their computer. I liked the big plant, so that went in as well as a bit of the structure under the elevated train and the deli across the street. I used a brush pen to sketch directly in ink which helped it go faster and then I added some color quickly with my waterbrush. Laura couldn't believe I finished it as quickly as I did.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipXtuLkxuNw8h9Z2OH7DAOX4glvzvX8mZwpVjScKe74plo-Pzy3LPU5mBXHduZjXN1cHnsCITge3VUX-KwuQIZLrxJraYml-aebJDPVtl8xVUxNsdnBl0cqDn9pjffj70AJxc3XuI2o8rlcdJF3wW3eiaQ_-96zSVgcDZBl6wrqfkZUxKyF_8POPuRqhM/s2853/IMG_4686.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1741" data-original-width="2853" height="390" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipXtuLkxuNw8h9Z2OH7DAOX4glvzvX8mZwpVjScKe74plo-Pzy3LPU5mBXHduZjXN1cHnsCITge3VUX-KwuQIZLrxJraYml-aebJDPVtl8xVUxNsdnBl0cqDn9pjffj70AJxc3XuI2o8rlcdJF3wW3eiaQ_-96zSVgcDZBl6wrqfkZUxKyF_8POPuRqhM/w640-h390/IMG_4686.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Joan Tavolotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11290923567339587417noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2752084389339915950.post-26461599133411096772024-02-28T13:13:00.000-08:002024-02-28T13:13:19.310-08:00The Forum @ Columbia University - Part 1<p style="text-align: center;"> On Sunday, the NYC Urban Sketchers met at a new venue for us. "The Forum" at Columbia University is located at 125 St and Broadway. It is a public space with lots of tables and chairs that is used by the Columbia students as well as people in the neighborhood. With floor to ceiling windows looking out on the city views, it was a perfect place to be out of the cold and still feel like you were sitting outdoors. Some of the windows overlooked the corner where the #1 train was elevated above our heads. The structure of it was very complex, but fun to try to draw. I did the basic structure that I could see clearly and sort of winged the rest to make it look believable. I hope I succeeded.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1mar-d41MOTor7AzWE1UCPde9xW24l4SN5YHIGJEccDYGzNAOX3UZy2uiwtAz6iLmwkK0_BD0n1jfRPUMEs51UJ6_Re5E6a3W4BsPpziub6j3hOqXx9zZe92xfvtVdzYCSPbji93y5_VQCtdIGfo3h98_qssv2h20gj97SLmelry6JSf3SsHJ3-8Loww/s3470/IMG_4683.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3470" data-original-width="2550" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1mar-d41MOTor7AzWE1UCPde9xW24l4SN5YHIGJEccDYGzNAOX3UZy2uiwtAz6iLmwkK0_BD0n1jfRPUMEs51UJ6_Re5E6a3W4BsPpziub6j3hOqXx9zZe92xfvtVdzYCSPbji93y5_VQCtdIGfo3h98_qssv2h20gj97SLmelry6JSf3SsHJ3-8Loww/w470-h640/IMG_4683.jpeg" width="470" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Joan Tavolotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11290923567339587417noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2752084389339915950.post-64400350629315522242024-02-27T14:01:00.000-08:002024-02-27T14:01:26.362-08:00Yacht Club<p style="text-align: center;"> Every once in a while I take a trip down to the area by the Mastic Beach Yacht Club. This one runs through a small park near Flo's. I was able to park right along the side of it. There was a woman sitting next to her car and feeding the gulls so I quickly sketched a few of them into the scene while they were swooping down to grab what she was tossing.</p><p style="text-align: center;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitf9KblVVYu7_zWkmpbg884nalocCHT4T6SmxHHwC5UcgINRAKx-83aCMY0_nkVtqBsvqumRBgzq56rJmTuMxzdPoduGX5AaMs540rW2aIWupH3jX0hSN4yaqzYZz3LOXneyfMlMDtBnH2RCe8Fwcys_XxHh_7F09YsnkqiR9KTLdsPdkkih0hyphenhyphenm_oZeI/s3532/IMG_4659.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2596" data-original-width="3532" height="470" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitf9KblVVYu7_zWkmpbg884nalocCHT4T6SmxHHwC5UcgINRAKx-83aCMY0_nkVtqBsvqumRBgzq56rJmTuMxzdPoduGX5AaMs540rW2aIWupH3jX0hSN4yaqzYZz3LOXneyfMlMDtBnH2RCe8Fwcys_XxHh_7F09YsnkqiR9KTLdsPdkkih0hyphenhyphenm_oZeI/w640-h470/IMG_4659.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Over on CreativeSpark there was an interesting item for the scavenger hunt. We had to find a playing card and sketch the numbered side as well as the back of the card. I dug out a very old deck of cards. From what I remember I got these the first time I flew anywhere. It was maybe 1968/1969 when I was all of 20 years old. A friend and I flew out to CA, stayed with her cousin and his family for a few days, and then drove up the CA coast. Neither of us could legally rent a car on our own and her dad rented one for us, but Suzanne had to do all the driving. The trip was a lot of fun and we met two sailors on a cable car in San Francisco. We hung out together all day and then the next day they took us on a tour of their aircraft carrier. We also went horseback riding and I was thrown off my horse. (And I have never climbed back on another one to this day.) At the time the airlines gave you all kinds of things when you were on board if you asked. I got the deck of cards. The box is really worn and I'm not sure if all the playing cards are still inside, but it was fun to sketch one of the cards.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: #fefefe; caret-color: rgb(20, 20, 20); color: #141414; font-family: "Segoe UI", "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, "Fira Sans", "Droid Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: start;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlE3Rf9bFl1ntBymqVft79ChcgsMEtuvlG2FtUorPYXI8Mj8nkSVZF520tHkoDk9yC3XVMyjMsoiw4VJ3FjV2BerjtiLfAbDG0_za742XAtvdhdfHB_V8LTPk_lVYdVCW_xeGBOv5GpE4tvW7c3J-gQGhwAV3hLCF9SVn8keujdnn0j_LInVSvlM4tHn4/s2257/IMG_4653.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1648" data-original-width="2257" height="468" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlE3Rf9bFl1ntBymqVft79ChcgsMEtuvlG2FtUorPYXI8Mj8nkSVZF520tHkoDk9yC3XVMyjMsoiw4VJ3FjV2BerjtiLfAbDG0_za742XAtvdhdfHB_V8LTPk_lVYdVCW_xeGBOv5GpE4tvW7c3J-gQGhwAV3hLCF9SVn8keujdnn0j_LInVSvlM4tHn4/w640-h468/IMG_4653.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /> <p></p>Joan Tavolotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11290923567339587417noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2752084389339915950.post-88432854684057343772024-02-22T15:22:00.000-08:002024-02-22T15:22:30.518-08:00Snow by the Fence<p style="text-align: center;"> I had mail to take to the post office the other day, so after I dropped it off I sat in the post office parking lot in Holbrook to paint this snowy view.
