Outside the Sayville Bean

 A stop at the Sayville Bean was a good spot to find some people to sketch early in the morning during our heat wave. It was early enough for the heat to be tolerable.

30x30 Direct Watercolor #4 + More

 For my 5th 30x30 Direct Watercolor I painted the view across the Great South Bay from Smith Point.

When I was at the Teddy Roosevelt Reenactment there were other sketching opportunities. One was this1903 Brewster carriage.

I also captured a few people sitting around watching the activities going on.

The Meeting

 Last week one of my art groups held their August General Meeting outside at the Bellport Marina. It turned out to be a very cool evening with most of us wearing hoodies or sweatshirts. Since we are artists several of the members were sketching while we talked and later listened to the information about the upcoming events. My thanks to Loretta, Jackie, Casey, Val and Laurie for being such good models.

Mall Sketch

During the week I went to the Lake Grove Mall to do some Christmas shopping. I couldn't find what I needed so I gave up and went to the Food Court to sketch. There were a group of teenage kids on a chaperoned shopping trip and all of them were hanging out having lunch in the food court. They were good models for my sketch.

Sketching Here And There

 Last week Jerry had an eye doctor appointment for his shots to his eyes. They put numbing drops in and then he has to wait for a bit. I used that time to sketch him in the chair. This was done on blue Strathmore paper. 

On Saturday afternoon I met my friend Suzala in Northport to paint. We decided not to venture into the city in the heat but to stay local instead. Later we headed down by the waterfront park and I sketched some people.

I also sketched in watercolor. This woman was sitting on a stone bench next to us.

There was a cute dog near her that I had to sketch. Both of these were done directly in watercolor.

Indoor Sketching

I had to drop off paintings for a group exhibit at one of my local libraries.  The exhibit is in a brand new building that I hadn't been in before, so I roamed around to see if it was conducive to do sketching from inside the building looking out the big windows. Prior to becoming the library the building was the St. Ursula Center Convent. It would be perfect on freezing cold days if there were good views. The views were OK but nothing to get real excited about. I ended up sitting at a table in one of the reading/work areas. There were some comfy looking blue chairs and some tables, stained glass windows...and lots of books and shelves. Lots of room for social distancing too.

At first I was the only one working in the room but then a man sat at the table in the sketch above and a woman came and sat  at a table across the room. That was too good to pass up. It has been a long time since I've been anywhere where there were captive people to sketch...probably the last time I met with the NYC Urban Sketchers in the city. So I flipped to another page in my sketchbook and sketched both of them.
