Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July to those who are celebrating here. Today is a special 4th of July. It would have been my mother's 100th birthday. She was a Yankee Doodle Girl loved by all of us. Family was the most important thing and she relished her children and her grandchildren. I miss her every day. Here are a few photos of her.

Today my art group (The South Bay Art Association) held our annual Artists on the Lane show. I was helping to run it. We had 67 vendors and a lot of people came out in the heat to see the show and shop. I had a little free time to do a sketch. Our organization's booth was holding a raffle of donated artwork. The proceeds go toward scholarships to local schools.

Today the South Bay Art Association held our annual show, Artists on the Lane in Bellport. It is a nice show and there were about 60 vendors. I helped with organizing and manning our table. Since I was there all day I did have time to do a sketch of the activity.

Update on the Bellport Gazebo and the Lifeguard

Back on the 4th of July I painted at my art group's outdoor event, "Artists on the Lane." Someone I know who is part of the Bellport Chamber of Commerce told me I should submit my painting of the Bellport Gazebo for their annual poster contest for Bellport Day. I wasn't going to do it, but she convinced me to enter. I deepened the shadows on the grass and the gazebo and entered it. Guess what...it was selected to be this year's poster! Bellport Day is July 29 and I will be out of town at the Urban Sketchers Symposium in Chicago, so I will have to make sure to sign a stack of posters before I leave and they go on sale. Woo-hoo!!! I do get some kind of prize and am invited to a chamber lobster dinner. Too bad I don't get a cut of the poster sales. Here is the updated look.

Bellport Gazebo

On the 4th of July one of my art groups, the South Bay Art Association, sponsors an art show called "Artists on the Lane." It has been going on for about 40 years. I didn't have a booth but I worked at our art group's booth and I was asked to paint on site. The only view I had other than the booths of the actual vendors was the Bellport Gazebo right behind me. I sketched in a few people as they came and went in the little park.

The show was a success with nearly 60 vendors and a fair amount of traffic. I did sell a few things that I had on display in our booth...two alcohol ink tiles and a batch of greeting cards.

Artists on the Lane Sketch

On the 4th of July one of my art groups always sponsors an art show in Bellport called Artists on the Lane. I was there on Monday to help sell raffle tickets. Our group also had a booth of our own where several of us had work displayed. I sat there for a while and sketched some ladies checking out the work.

Saturday was SBAA's annual "Artists on the Lane" in Bellport. This is an organization that I belong to, and although I didn't exhibit in the show, I was there. This is a big fundraiser for the South Bay Art Associations's Student Scholarship Show held every November. I was selling raffle tickets for donated paintings and also found a little time to sketch the view of some of the vendors at the show.
