Yesterday two friends and I took the ferry from Bayshore to Ocean Beach on Fire Island. I've wanted to go there for a while, so I was happy. We walked up and down the streets in the town looking at the different styles of beach houses and cottages. We climbed the steps and the boardwalk going over the dunes. The water was really rough yesterday and no swimming was allowed. We sat on the boardwalk over the dunes and I sketched these two small pieces.
Here is a short video I made of the waves.
Lovely paintings of this interesting beach Joan....Looks a lovely place for sketching but oh boy those waves look rough...great to see a video of it :-)
ReplyDeleteBoth sketches are just lovely! I'd love to have been here; I can sit and wave watch for hours!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day out. Love your sketches and seeing the wild waves!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ann. You could barely stand at the water's edge.
ReplyDeleteSherry, I feel the same way about the waves. Thanks.
Wendy, thanks. I had to experiment and see if I could post a video here.
Love both the sketches, Joan. You captured the weathered color/feeling of the buildings. I enjoyed the power of those waves. I have a healthy respect for the ocean.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sketches, Joan! LOVE the waves! I have a tape that I listen to sometimes when I paint....the sound of the ocean!!! So relaxing!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat sketches -- and what a video! Exciting waves!
ReplyDeleteJulie, thanks! The ocean is surely powerful.
ReplyDeleteHilda, thank you. I wish the video only had the sounds of the waves, not the people talking nearby.
Thanks Tina! Glad you enjoyed the video.
