Andrews Family Farm

I knew I wanted to paint at Andrews Family Farm this season, but I was running out of day because I had a trip coming up. So I requested that my plein air group head there for a morning of sketching. Denise Andrews and the staff there are always so welcoming to us when we come to paint. The setups at the farm stand there always make me smile.

Pumpkins!

My plein air group painted at Andrews Family Farm in Wading River the other day. The rainbow of pumpkins captured my attention. My thanks to Denise Andrews and the staff for always being so welcoming.

Produce for Sale

This is a piece I did on location with my plein air group at Andrews Family Farm in Wading River. I completed most of it the first time we were there but I decided that the foreground needed something. We went back for a return visit and I added some of the flower bouquets that they had for sale as well as the hanging Indian corn.

WIP Fruits & Veggies

My plein air group visited Andrews Family Farm in Wading River this week. It is one of my favorite places to paint. The owners are so welcoming. The painting isn't finished yet, but I cropped this part and used it for the creativespark.art Scavenger Hunt...two of the items were fruit and veggies. Although I painted there for nearly 2 hours I need to do more work on this. I will post it when it is completed.

Sunflower Play

A few weeks ago I stopped at Andrews Family Farm in Wading River to check out their produce. As I pulled in I noticed that one of the owners, Denise was there. I hadn't seen her since the end of the fall and it was good to catch up with her. I left with some veggies and two bouquets of sunflowers that she gave me. They made a huge arrangement and I painted a few of the flowers when I got home. The painting wasn't quite finished and the sunflowers were gone, but at last I got around to finishing the painting during one of our rainy, damp days. I played a lot with the background.

Andrews Family Farm

My plein air group usually goes to Andrews Family Farm in Wading River every fall to sketch the pumpkins and the autumn displays. I love going there any time of year since the owners are so nice. I knew they had their Christmas trees and wreaths out so I took a ride over. Of course it looked great! It was cold so I sat in my car to paint this direct watercolor.

Andrews Farm Treasures

I've been finishing up and tweaking paintings for my upcoming shows. This was started back in September, but I didn't get around to finishing it until now. It was done at the Andrews Family Farm. The people there are so nice.

Inktober Day 23 - Sayville House & A Sale

Today I had to meet someone in Sayville for a few minutes so while I was there I found a place to sketch. At first I was just going to sketch the fountain, but I really liked the archways in the front of the house so I included a bit more. This was done with my Lamy pen which was filled with permanent ink. I touched my water brush to the pen nib to get some washes.

I had painted this painting on location at Andrews Family Farm recently. I usually paint there several times each year.  The owner saw it and told me she wanted the painting. I told her I would take it home and adjust the painting indoors. My eyes have a hard time seeing what needs to be adjusted and made darker when I'm working out in the sun. Anyway the other day I went back out to Andrews Farm and delivered the painting to Denise. I think she now owns 3 or 4 of my paintings. I guess that means I have an official collector. lol

Inktober - Day 3 - Andrews Farm

My plein air group was painting at Andrews Farm in Wading River today. In addition to my painting from there I made sure I got a sketch done for Inktober. I went inside the farm stand to sketch this basket of peppers. #inktober #inktober2017

On Sunday a small group of NYC Urban Sketchers and I went to Parkslope, Brooklyn. The rest of the NYC group went up to Connecticut, but we thought that was a little too far, and Brooklyn seemed to interest us more. This was where I did the first sketch for Inktober2017. Parkslope has many brownstones, that are a delight to paint. I sat directly across from this one and painted it. The owner did come out to see what I was doing and liked it. Too bad he didn't want to buy it. As you can see, Parkslope has cars parked in front of the buildings, so I had to make sure I sat with a view between two parked cars so I could paint this view.

Andrews Farm

With all my Inktober sketches and travel sketches I have quite a few things I did a while ago that weren't posted yet (or I don't think they were) like this painting done at Andrews Farm. The Andrews family has such a wonderful place and they are always willing to let us come and paint or sketch there. I usually paint the views outside, but Debby had this inside section set up so nicely I just had to paint it. Doesn't all that fresh produce look tempting? I never leave without buying some of her veggies and fruit. This is 8 x 10.

On Tuesday morning my plein air group met at a farm. Some of us hit the sunflower fields. My thanks to Andrews Family Farm in Wading River which is always so welcoming to us.

Veggies

I did this at the beginning of last month at Andrews Family Farm in Wading River and it was waiting for a few finishing touches. I love sketching and painting at this farmstand since the people are just soooo nice and welcoming whenever we go as a group or if I go individually. This is 5 x 7.

Andrews Family Farm Stand

I have quite a few home sketches and paintings to catch up on. It seems strange to be posting only one this time. lol My plein air group met two weeks ago at Andrews Family Farm out east of here. It is such a great farm stand and the people who run it are so nice. They have told us many times to come back whenever we want and not to worry about being in the way of the customers. I had planned on going back last week but never got the chance. This is 8 x 10.

Andrews Farm Revisited

Today my Tuesday morning art group, PALS (see the blog list on the right) returned to the Andrews & Sons Family Farm in Calverton. Denise Andrews, the sales manager, has been so welcoming to our group. I swear she sets up the colorful displays with us in mind. It was a cool, windy day but that didn't deter us. We all dressed warmly and painted away.
This is 8 x 10.

Here are some photos from the day.

The chickens out back.

Laurie trying to keep warm.

Jeanne and Arlene (who brought donuts again).

Laurie #2 painting the flowers.

Marlene doing her pastel magic.

Susan using a riot of color.

Rosamaria, Marlene, and Susan swapping stories.

Andrews Family Farm

I am going to go out of secquence a bit and post what I painted today with the PALS Plein Air group. We were lucky enough to be invited to the R & M Andrews & Sons Family Farm & Greenhouses
in Wading River. When I say the owners bent over backwards for us I am not kidding.Water and donuts were even provided for us. My thanks to Denise Andrews for the tour and opening your farm to us. There was so much to choose from but I focused on the farmstand itself.
The flowers and vegetables had so much color.
This is 8 x 10.

We had a pretty good turnout today. Here is a photo of me with my work.

And with the scene I was painting.

I did catch some of the other artists busy at work.
Here is Linda.

Jean

And Chris

I missed getting photos of Rosamaria and Mary who were painting at the back of the farm.

I am hoping that we will return there soon.
