Andrews Family Farm

My plein air group usually goes to Andrews Family Farm in Wading River every fall to sketch the pumpkins and the autumn displays. I love going there any time of year since the owners are so nice. I knew they had their Christmas trees and wreaths out so I took a ride over. Of course it looked great! It was cold so I sat in my car to paint this direct watercolor.

Street Cheer

With the piles of snow around it wasn't easy to find a spot to park with a view of something Christmassy. I ended up along Main Street in Patchogue. I like the festive wreaths on the lampposts and this one had some of the lights showing where they were hanging across the alley.

Commission Update and Farm Stand

I dropped off the house portrait with the client and she loved it! I'm so glad!!!

Then I headed out east to do some Christmas shopping and look for something Christmasy to sketch. I've sketched at Gabrielsson's Farm in Jamesport before at Christmas, but things looked a little sparse today. Maybe I've been there a little earlier in the season before. They had some wreaths, some cyclamen, but I didn't see any trees. The poinsettias apparently were back in the greenhouse.

I'm sure the people who worked there in the building that you can't see off to the right must have thought I was odd. I pulled up and never got out of the car, moved back a bit (so I could see the wagons) and parked again, and then sat there for quite a while...and still never got out of my car. lol

Tree Lot

Today was a rainy day but I needed to get out and sketch something. I had spent most of yesterday and this morning on Christmas stuff and sketching wasn't on the list. I ended up sitting in my car facing a tree lot to sketch this scene.

It's beginning to look a lot like...

Slowly I am seeing the Christmas tree displays popping up here and there. It was a definite sign when I saw a big flat-bed truck filled with trees the other day.
Yesterday I sat in the car in the parking lot of a local strip mall with a stand-along flower shop. They were just starting to display some of the wreaths and trees...but I didn't hear any music there yet.
This is about 4 x 6 done at Vinny's Flower Box in Holbrook.
