St Francis De Sales

Of course I was exhausted when we got home last Tuesday at 10:30 PM. I went straight to bed and slept until only 5 AM. I was really dragging all day but I didn't want to nap and then not be able to sleep at night. My Wednesday sketch group was meeting in Patchogue and I joined them, even though I was really tired. The group will be doing a show sometime this year and we were asked to get sketches ready to be juried into the  show. So we are concentrating on Patchogue scenes. The group met on South Ocean Ave by the VFW Hall was where I sketched for the Memorial Day Ceremony yesterday. I didn't want to do that building. I was attracted to this building which is the Parish Center for St Francis De Sales Church. It is a complicated building so I was only able to do the ink sketch of it that night.

But I did go back over the weekend when the sun was out because I wanted to paint it with shadows on the building. Here it is as it stands now. I may tweek it a bit more.

    1. I know you've done several with conical towers. This was a bit complicated but I was patient. Thanks.

  3. Super impressed with the drawing Joan. It looks great with color added as well. Hopefully you are getting back on the US clock and not feeling quite so tired!

    1. Thanks, Sherry. I think I may be almost back to normal...although I was up at 5 this morning which is a bit early for me.

  4. Wow - complicated indeed! Great job Joan. I would have been pulling out a ruler to check my perspective - lol. Hope you are soon back to 'normal'.

  5. This turned out so well, do you find it easier the more you sketch the same building?

  6. I like Victorian style houses with the turrets. Nice lines and even better with the color and shadows. I hope you get the nod on this entry!
