Suffolk County Farm

I hadn't been to the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank for a while. There were some flowers in bloom. I painted them in direct watercolor for the 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge 2025.

The sheep were out and some were near the shelter...
(These were also done for the 30 x 30 challenge.)

and some were just grazing in the nearby field.
(More for the 30 x 30 challenge.)

Sheep in the Field

I'm always looking for something different to sketch. I was over by the Smithtown Historical Society and figured I would sketch one of the buildings when I noticed that there were sheep in the field AND they were staying fairly still. I pulled my car up over by the fence and started with one...and then another and I continued on. At times one would get up and walk away, but most of them were staying close by and seated. It was a good way to sketch some of them.

Inktober - Day 4 - Creatures

Today I went to the Suffolk County Farm to sketch animals. I wanted to practice sketching with the twig, so I used that for this sketch of the sheep. The second sheep wasn't cooperating and was sleeping with his backside facing me. #inktober #inktober2017

In a nearby pen there were two peacocks. This one was so colorful but kept turning away and going inside the little house to eat. I kept following it around trying to stay on the same side of it so I could finish the sketch. I did this one directly in watercolors.

Sheep

I visited the Suffolk County Farm Museum to see if there were any baby animals yet. There were a few babies running around and lots of the adults. I got a lot of good views.

The new entry for "Tracy at the Farm" is here if you care to check it out:

Dingle Part I

Dingle is located in County Kerry, north of the Ring of Kerry. It is a small town but you can drive along the coast for miles along what is known as the Dingle Peninsula. There are a lot of historic attractions along the route. I was more interested in the colorful town, the sheep, and the pubs. lol

This is Dingle Harbor. There are a lot of fishing boats and the backdrop is the wonderful green countryside broken by rock walls and shrubs and the colorful houses.

This is one of the colorful cafes in the town itself. Don't you just love the pink?

One day we went for a ride along the Dingle Peninsula. I read that the road around is one-way and I can well understand the need for that since in spots two cars can't pass side by side, never mind a car and a tour bus. There are windy, hairpin turns, enough to make you think "this wasn't such a good idea" about driving there. However, the one-way rule was not in force during the off season. My husband, Jerry, said he was going to have an ulcer after being in the car there. There were a number of scenic pull-offs where we were able to park and I could sit outside of the car. This is a view of some of the islands off the coastline.

This was also painted along the coastal road. I don't understand why the sheep just don't roll down the hillside. There were sheep everywhere and I just loved them. Luckily these sheep were fenced in and not roaming around on the road.
