Side Garden

I think I will eventually run out of houses in Sayville to sketch and paint, but it hasn't happened yet. This one is down near the beach and caught my eye.

Moon Garden

Last week my plein air group was invited to a private garden. The homeowner had a part of the garden she called her "moon garden." It had lots of blue orbs tucked in amid the flowers. It was a really pretty area.

Susan's Garden

Last week my friend, Susan, invited the Patchogue Sketch Club to sketch her garden. I've sketched there many times, but this was the first time the group did. At the end of the evening we gathered together to make s'mores over a small fire. We had fun!

Pat's Hollyhocks

I love painting hollyhocks, but don't see them very often. These were in my friend, Pat's garden. She graciously let me sit and do a direct watercolor of them.

Direct Watercolor #10

For my 30 x 30 Direct Watercolor Challenge 10th painting I went to the garden of my friend, Pat Sweeney. She had some peonies that were still in bloom. I was hoping to do a loose version of a peony but that didn't work. I'm happy with this even though there isn't a lot of definition between the petals. My thanks to Pat for sharing her garden with me.

Meadow Croft Garden

Meadow Croft Estate in Sayville is a nicely preserved historic estate in Sayville that was owned by John Ellis Roosevelt and his family. They were related to Teddy Roosevelt. They have a small garden with a birdbath that I like to visit and sketch.

Garden and Trellis

I went over to Meadow Croft in Sayville. I found a nice view looking into the garden toward the fountain (which has no water). There weren't too many flowers in bloom.

30 x 30 Direct Watercolor - Day 8

My Day 8 painting for the challenge is of foxgloves. These were growing in the small garden on the property of the historic Meadow Croft Estate in Sayville.  Among the residents of this property was John E. Roosevelt, cousin of Teddy Roosevelt. Teddy was known to ride on horseback out to his cousin's home in Sayville from his "summer White House" in Oyster Bay. The estate is now part of the Suffolk County Historic Trust and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Garden Gate

This scene has attracted me before. I love the white gate calling you to the garden. This is a corner house off Broadway Ave in Sayville.
