Meadow Croft Road

I often go back to sketch at Meadowcroft Estate in Sayville. This is the dirt road entrance to the property, looking back toward the street. The fragmites hide the water nearby.

Meadow Croft Estate

Meadow Croft Estate in Sayville is a good place for sketching. The house and barn (pictured here) are interesting buildings. I caught it when there was still a little snow on the ground.

30x30 Direct Watercolor #22 Meadow Croft & Flowers

The lawn at Meadow Croft Estate in Sayville had some lovely yellow flowers...perfect for a 30x30 Direct Watercolor.

The Patchogue Sketch Club went to the Swan River Preserve in Patchougue the other night. The foliage there is so tall it is hard to find a view to sketch. I ended up focusing on some small flowers against the slats of the fence.

Meadow Croft Garden

Meadow Croft Estate in Sayville is a nicely preserved historic estate in Sayville that was owned by John Ellis Roosevelt and his family. They were related to Teddy Roosevelt. They have a small garden with a birdbath that I like to visit and sketch.

30 x 30 Direct Watercolor - Day 8

My Day 8 painting for the challenge is of foxgloves. These were growing in the small garden on the property of the historic Meadow Croft Estate in Sayville.  Among the residents of this property was John E. Roosevelt, cousin of Teddy Roosevelt. Teddy was known to ride on horseback out to his cousin's home in Sayville from his "summer White House" in Oyster Bay. The estate is now part of the Suffolk County Historic Trust and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
