Roadside America - LL Bean Big Boot

Sorry to have disappeared. My computer wasn't working and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to post here from my iPad or my iPhone. After waiting for an appointment for a few days, I took the computer to Apple to be repaired. They told me it was a "vintage model" and after having it for a few days it was determined that it couldn't be fixed. So I bought a new one. I've spent most of this evening trying to get up to speed with the new Mac since things are different.

Anyway it seems that I am back to posting with a lot to catch up on. I did another Roadside America sketch since they were such fun. This is the giant boot that stands in front of the L L Bean store in Freeport, Maine.

Bracco's Bar

Last Friday I had plans to meet two of my friends for lunch in Freeport. I made sure to get there early enough so that I could look for a sketching spot and do a sketch before meeting them. I drove down Guy Lombardo Drive and this cute outdoor bar area was next to Bracco's Bar. It was a pretty windy day and a bit early for a bar crowd but I liked the Adirondack chairs and tiki huts set up outside in the sand. Luckily I finished just as one of my friends texted me to say she was at the hotel we picked for lunch.

Freeport Sketches Part II

After the sketches done on the dock in the sun, it was time for a break. We headed over to a place called Hurricane Harry's where we sat in the shade of an umbrella and had a cold beer and some fried calamari while we looked for models to sketch.

This guy was in my direct line of sight at the outdoor bar.

I did some small sketches of some of the other patrons and the singer that was offering some Jimmy Buffet-style entertainment.

We headed a little further down the Nautical Mile looking for a place for lunch. Our next stop was Jeremy's Ale House which had a counter where you walked up to order your food and then an indoor bar, seating area, and outdoor deck. We opted for the outdoor deck and  a little more sketching.

After lunch we were down to 3 sketchers and Susan, Melanie and I found a shady spot outside an ice cream shop. I was able to sketch a bit of the view down the rest of the Nautical Mile.

Freeport Sketches Part I

Last Sunday several NYC Urban Sketching ladies met in Freeport, LI for a day of sketching on Long Island.

Melanie was coming out from the city so we met her at the Freeport Train Station. We were a little early so we sat in Susan's car and sketched until Melanie's train pulled in.

We drove down to our destination, the Nautical Mile, actually Woodcleft Avenue which is filled with an odd combination of bars, restaurants, fish markets, live music and lots of people.

Denise, and Suzala met us at the Nautical Mile.  We sat out on a dock to sketch the fishing boats with some of the buildings along the canal.

Here I am sitting on the dock painting.

Denise doing her watercolors.

Melanie painting.

For my next sketch I turned around in the same location to paint one of the swan boats by another dock.
