Robinson's Pond

The Patchogue Sketch Club finally got to actually go out and sketch recently. Our destination was Robinson's Pond in East Patchogue. It was a very windy day and we had a very small turnout. I sat on the sidewalk behind the bridge to skech one of the houses that overlooks the pond. The swans made an appearance but then floated under the bridge to the other side of the road.

Seahorse by the Shore

I went down to Miramar Beach in East Patchogue the other day and found something I hadn't noticed before. There was a seahorse statue standing in the reeds. It was a nice surprise!

Michele & Nick's House

A friend of mine and her husband live in East Patchogue on South Country Road. Most of the time when I drive into Bellport I take that route and pass by their house. It always looks so good...especially in the fall. I always say to myself that I should stop and sketch it someday. This year I did stop. Michele and Nick were down in SC at their other house and weren't home. I sat across from their house and painted it with the stunning autumn leaves. They are back up here for the holidays so I called and asked Michele if it was OK if I stopped by for a few minutes. I brought her the 5 x 7 matted painting and gave it to her. Originally she thought it was a painting I had shared on FB the other day that she loved and had reposted on her page...but then she realized it was their house. They were thrilled!! They had missed the autumn colors on Long Island while they were away. I'm so glad they were happy with it.

Michele is one of my big supporters. She reposts a lot of my artwork, encourages me, advertises my shows and events, and tries to get business for me. She's a good friend so I'm glad I was able to do something nice for her.

Michele's House

When I got home from Venice and needed some soothing color I drove along South Country Road in East Patchogue. My friend, Michele and her husband live in a pretty house along the road. The trees in front were glowing with color. I finished about 90% of this sitting in my mobile studio across the street from their house, and finished the other 10% this morning. Michele was in North Carolina at the time I started this and was missing all the wonderful color. I've got to stop by to see her now that they are home again.

Miramar Beach Sketch

This is a fairly quick ink sketch done down by Miramar Beach in East Patchogue.

Autumn Colors

I was afraid that by the time we arrived home all the autumn colors would be gone. I must say that we missed most of it. Here and there you can find part of a tree that is brightly colored by it seems that many of the leaves have already fallen and that the colors are really a muted brown. I don't know if the strange weather we had is the reason for this, but I was happy when I found this tree on South Country Road heading into East Patchogue.

Swan River Preserve Bridge

The previous post showed my friend, Rosanne sketching this foliage-covered bridge at Swan Lake Preserve in East Patchogue. The bridge gave us something to focus on amid all the green.

Rosanne Sketching

The other night the Patchogue Sketch Club met at Swan River Preserve in East Patchogue to sketch. I don't find the location very inspiring...too green. I did one sketch and then sketched my friend, Rosanne who was working at the picnic table in front of me.

Hedges Creek Pond

The Patchogue Sketch Club met at Hedges Creek Pond in East Patchogue last Wednesday evening. For me it was just too much green...green trees and shrubs and lots of reflected green.

Robinson's Pond

My friend was still working on one of her paintings for the SBAA Plein Air Event so I went over to Robinson's Pond to keep her company. Unfortunately the pond has a lot of algae that spoils the view of it. But I sat and painted a small scene while we chatted.

One of the resident swans kept swimming by so I did a small sketch of it.

Robinson's Pond

Along South Country Road is Robinson's Pond which seems to have been taken over by some algae or some kind of green plant. It looks like it should be water lilies, but I know it isn't. We've had that problem with a lot of lakes and ponds here. It still looks pretty with the yellow green surrounded by the dark shadowed water.

Seascape

I still love sketching scenes along the water here on Long Island. We are blessed to have such great views to capture nearby. This was done in East Patchogue.

Field in Autumn

I've been continuing my search for autumn color before the leaves are all off the trees. This was done in East Patchogue.

Inktober 2020 Day 29

For my Day 29 sketch I headed down by the Great South Bay in East Patchogue. You can see Fire Island in the distance.

Miramar Beach

Last Wednesday the Patchogue Sketch Club met at Miramar Beach in East Patchogue. It is a small beach on the bay which isn't too exciting. I liked this house that was next to the beach and the fact that by the time we were leaving there was some color in the sky from the sunset.

South Country Deli

One thing we have an abundance of on Long Island is delis. We do like places to stop and get food. The South Country Deli in East Patchogue always has cars in front and seems to do a brisk business. I had an appointment nearby so this seemed like a good spot to do a sketch of it. I ended up starting it before the appointment and finishing it after the appointment.

East Patchogue Marsh View

It wasn't quite as warm today so I resorted to sitting in my mobile studio to paint this view along Middle Country Road in East Patchogue.

Snowy Look & Bay View

This is the only piece I did for the military project that is a snow theme. It hasn't snowed here in a while so I used one of my previous sketches from Sayville to do this one.

This one was done down near the Great South Bay in East Patchogue. That is Fire Island off in the distance. Two more to go to reach my total of 20.

Morning By the Bay

Here is another 4 x 7 that will be in my collection of paintings for the troops. This was done in East Patchogue down by the Great South Bay.

Heading East

It was a mild day today and I decided to go capture some color before it is gone. I headed down to South Country Road in East Patchogue again, this time heading east. A lot of the trees that I painted the other day have lost the bulk of their leaves but this spot looked pretty good. Since it is a narrow road with not much leeway on the sides I opted to do this from my "mobile studio."
