Brooklyn Flea Market/Smorgasburg - Part 2

When I arrived at the Brooklyn Flea Market in the morning I took a walk around to scope things out. That was when I saw the food stand for C Bao (Asian Buns) with these Peking ducks hanging. What a view!!! I knew that once people were at this stand I would have to sketch it. By the time I got around to it there were so many people around. I found a spot by the wall and set up my stool. It isn't easy to juggle all your belongings while sketching. I spilled water on myself several times. My friend, Jeff (black coat and hat) was sitting right at the counter sketching the activity so he was included in my sketch. Later in the day when he saw that I had put him into the sketch he took a photo of it and then a photo of me holding the sketch.

Earlier in the day when I was sketching the art corner and the Ding Dong Bar I also sketched the bar that was over in the corner. That was our meeting place later for our "show and tell."

Planning a trip away very soon. I will give you details as the time gets closer. I'm not sure if I will be able to post to my blog. On my last trip I found it impossible to get blogger to work on my iPad. I'll have to do a few test runs and see if I can get it to work.

Brooklyn Flea Market/Smorgasburg - Part 1

The NYC Urban Sketchers met at the Brooklyn Flea Market and Smorgasburg today. It moved to a new location since the last time we sketched there. It was fun with lots of subjects.

I started with a sketch of the creative area that was set up for the kids to play and create. There was a big roll of paper for the kids and piles of crayons. Some adults were very happy to sit there and color too.

Several of us were sketching from a table. Right nearby were some very tempting delights. I sketched the Ring Ding Bar. It looked so good and there were all kinds of flavors...the nutella was calling me but I resisted. Right next to the Ring Ding Bar was a donut stand with really outrageous items for consumption. I resisted all of them. Yea!

Trip to the Brooklyn Flea Market

I successfully reached Nostrand Avenue on the Long Island Railroad on Saturday and navigated my way along the streets to find the Brooklyn Flea Market. I was a bit early and luckily it wasn't raining in the morning so I stood on the corner of Dean St and Franklin Ave to do a sketch of the outside area.

Then I headed inside, scoped the place out and settled down to sketch Brooklyn Watches.

There was a mixture of old and new merchandise. I liked the contrast of the old fur coats and the new canvas bags right next to them.

At lunch I sketched a few of the other sketchers.
Here is Jim.

And Elizabeth.

Where we ate lunch was a bit of a food court, but not the vendors you would see at the local mall.
I sketched the guys at the Porchetta table.

My last sketch was just a bit of the hectic shoppers milling about.

The sketchers that were left by 3:30 met at the restaurant/bar upstairs to share our sketches and have a drink before venturing out in the rain for our trips home. I'm glad we had a nice, dry location for our day of sketching.

Trip to Brooklyn

On Saturday the NYC Urban Sketchers were meeting in Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Flea Market. Let me just say that I do NOT know my way around Brooklyn since as a kid growing up in Queens we weren't allowed to go to Brooklyn. lol The ride from here to Brooklyn takes at least an hour and I wasn't sure what the parking would be like near the flea market, so I decided to take the Long Island Railroad which isn't any quicker, but at least I could sketch during the ride.

A few models graciously sat near me on the train so I sketched them.
This young girl was one of them. I think she was trying to figure out why I kept looking at her.

A little while later she fell asleep against her mother.

This guy was sitting right behind her.

I had to switch trains at Jamaica and had a few minutes to sketch someone on the train platform.

to be continued...
