30 x 30 Direct Watercolor - Day 12

Yesterday along with several other invited artists I participated in the Bellport Garden Tour. As people walk around the gardens we paint the gardens. Unfortunately we have no control over what is in bloom and neither do the homeowners. The garden I was in for this painting was very pretty but a lot was not fully in bloom yet. I did find a spot to paint and spoke to many of the people who came through touring the gardens.  Rather than the small size I've been doing for the challenge this one is 8 x 10.

The Bellport Garden Club had asked my permission to use one of my paintings for the poster
advertising the Bellport Garden Tour.

Bellport Garden Tour & #30x30DirectWatercolor2018 Quickie

Today was the Bellport Garden Tour. This year it only included homes with pools. There were 6 gardens but I only saw the ones I was assigned to. I had 2 hours to pick a scene and paint it in each garden.

The first garden's pool area attracted me...I was ready to dive in.

The second property had a pool and assorted small buildings and quirky things around the back of the pool. One was an aviary, one was a storage building, and one was a small guest cottage. Believe it or not, this building below is a storage area. I don't know what is stored inside, but I thought it was nice enough to live in. Don't you love the dog statue in front of it?

Both of the paintings above were drawn in pencil first, so I hadn't completed my day 9 direct watercolor painting for the #30x30DirectWatercolor2018 yet. I decided to paint something that would have a dual purpose...to fit the challenge and be something on the WetCanvas Scavenger Hunt which I'm hosting. This qualified as "something sweet."

#30x30DirectWatercolor2018 - Day 8 - Week's Boatyard & Ink Sketches

Today I headed to Week's Boatyard in Patchogue for my daily painting for the #30x30DirectWatercolor2018. There is always a view of something there. lol I've painted many of them.

I never got to post these. Right after I got back from Australia the organizer for the Bellport Garden Tour contacted me and the other members of the PALS Plein Air Group. We will be painting in their garden tour next Saturday and they were looking for small black and white sketches of the selected gardens to use in their brochure that is handed out. A few of us did the rounds of the gardens doing quick sketches of something in each. These each took me about 15 minutes. Here are gardens #1-3.

This Saturday we are participating in the Bellport Garden Tour. It will be a busy day.

Bellport Garden Tour Continued

When I participated in the Bellport Garden Tour last Sunday I painted at two lovely gardens. This one had several charming locations to paint, but this rose arbor called to me. Sadly, the owner of this garden didn't seem to be around at all and didn't get to see it.

Bellport Garden View 1 - SOLD

On Sunday I participated in the Bellport Garden Tour. In the early afternoon I was in this lovely garden which had wonderful roses everywhere. I sketched some of the roses looking toward the house and the pool. The homeowner looked at it and loved it. I am so happy that they shared their lovely garden with me.

Bellport Garden Tour

Today my art group took part in another garden tour, this time in Bellport. I was in charge of organizing the artists but I had no idea what any of the gardens looked like. I rode around the area to see the homes on Tuesday but all you could see of any of them was the driveway. lol So the properties were a surprise.

I painted in a garden with my friend, Marlene. It was a huge property with a lovely house and pool. I decided to focus on the flowers around the pool fence. Here is the view I was doing with my painting in front.

And a larger view of the painting. It isn't quite this blue but I don't have it to take another photo because the homeowner bought it. Yay!!!

Here I am in action at my easel.

Marlene was painting a settee on the porch with the owner's dog sitting on it.
I have to tell you this was right up Marlene's alley since she often does pet portraits.
Here is Marlene at work. Marlene sold her painting too.

When I finished my painting I took a tour of a few of the other gardens that were nearby.
I wanted some photos of the other artists for the PALS Plein Air blog.

Here is Liz.

Liz was at a lovely garden with a view like this.

Susan BG was painting a small building on the side of the garden she was working in.

Susan T and Laurie were at the same garden...one painting in the front and one in the back.
Here's Susan in the hot sun.

And Laurie in the shade.

Gina was at another lovely garden.

I missed getting photos of the other artists. They must have been touring the gardens when I came by.
It was a perfect day for painting!

My friend Susan sent me this photo from today.
