Blooms Day 4 & 5

It seemed like each day the flowers for the "5 Days of Beautiful Blooms" got a little more complex. For day 4 we were given an image of a white lily. White flowers are really hard to draw. Sarah left hers just as a line drawing but I added a little bit of color. I used the Zentangle colored fountain pens for this and a touch of watercolors.

The day 5 image was of a dahlia. They are sooooo difficult to sketch. Some have lots of pointy petals and some have a combination of a tight center and open petals along the outer part. For this sketch I started with the Zentalgle colored inks in the fountain pens in a few colors. Sarah had suggested we try to do multi media so I started pulling out other materials. I also used watercolors, Aquatone watercolor sticks, and then dome acrylic inks

The challenge was fun. I did each flower so it was framed the same with just different colors. I put all five of them on the same page like this,

Blooms Day 2 & 3

I continued the 5 Days of Beautiful Blooms with Karen Abend and Karen Abend and Sarah Simon. For day 2 Sarah presented an image of Cosmos. I did several of them. Again I worked with fountain pens from Zensations with colored ink that bleeds. I was careful to let it bleed in parts but jus outline in others.

The day 3 challenge was a rose. Roses are always a challenge to me but I sketched it carefully, counting the petals as Sarah suggested. (I still got lost in the flower. lol) I used a Uniball vision for the outline and then Derwent Aquatone watercolor sticks for the color. They didn't come out too vibrant on the paper I was using.

Blooms Day 1

I am participating in a quick challenge of sketching 5 Days of Blooms with Karen Abend and Sarah Simon. Each day for the 5 days we are provided with an image of a particular flower. You can use that image or any image of that particular flower to do your sketch in any materials or any way you want. I got off to a slow start and only have 2 of the flowers done for the first 4 days. lol I will catch up. The first flower in a ranunculus. I used a fountain pen with waterproof ink and colored non-waterproof inks to do my sketch.
