Today the PALS Plein Air Group that I belong to took a trip to Bridge Gardens in Bridgehampton which is about an hour and 10 minutes east of me. It is part of the Peconic Land Trust which is accumulating land out there to be preserved as gardens and open land. The garden is really pretty with a water lily pond, some English gardens, a rose arbor, etc. I began the day (which was very hot) in the shade from a building near the lily pond. This is 8 x 10 and is not my direct watercolor painting.
I had a little time before we were leaving so I did a quick direct watercolor of part of the garden. This was done in about 15 minutes and is 5 x 7.
Very nicely done, Joan! Beautiful little watercolors!

DeleteBeautiful. You have plein air quick painting down to a science now! I need some to rub off on me for the summer in New Mexico. Ha.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I need to come and hang around with you there. lol Thanks.
DeleteThese are both lovely, and I really can't tell that you weren't doing direct watercolor in the lilies painting! You can probably do it all the time!

Some scenes are too complex and I lose my way without pencil lines. lol Thanks.
DeleteOutstanding colors in the second watercolor.... Love the water lilies in the first!!!!
ReplyDeleteMany, many thanks, Hilda.
DeleteSuper sketches Joan. I really like the waterlilies and those purple balls look really cool - well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Val!
DeleteBoth look wonderful, the quick sketch has a lot of life in it, and I like the blues and purples in this piece
